Migraine after busy day or Thursday exercise?

Under active thyroid - Does anyone get migraines following the exercise or even a busy day? Ranging from just a muzzy, hungover feeling to a full migraine?

No migraines, but if I get cold or exercise in zone 4 or 5, or even short hiit sessions, I often get a nasty ‘crash’ which lasts a couple of days. Emotional instability and exhaustion with a fluey achey feeling. Yuk.

I’ve spent a good 3 years getting the meds and vitamins right, and its all mostly good provided my routine is predictable. I’m now very tuned in to my body, but that doesn’t always stop me overdoing it as I’ve always been quite sporty. It’s very annoying!

I take t3 and t4. My NHS endo recommended the t3, but private UK prices are prohibitive, so I acquire it on visits to Greece and Turkey where it is dirt cheap and no prescription required. I’m a bit worried I might run out before I can buy more though, which is a bit of a stress!

I’m starting to accept that being well medicated just doesn’t offer my body the same flexibility as actually having a thyroid gland that works.

That sounds very similar to me. I used to run marathons and on a weekly basis do 2 ten mile runs and 1 eight mile run and always felt so great afterwards. Now I will only run 4 miles and even that can give me a terrible crash, with the headaches being the worse. I never get the lovely energising feel from exercise anymore, quite the opposite which is sooo annoying. I am now seeing a specialist who is trying to get me T3, but it is not available in my area. He is trying to find another route for me to get it as all the appeals are being turned down. He did full blood counts and even tested cortisol and other things just in case. All my other levels were well within range, but T3 was slightly low. I first saw the specialist last September after months of being fobbed off by my Dr. Obviously Covid has slowed everything down, so I’m just plodding on at the moment! X

If my GP won’t prescribe T3 and I am still awaiting an appeal by my specialist, how do I find out what dose to take if I can get hold of any? I’ve just seen the prices to buy in this country and won’t be able to do that, but maybe able to from elsewhere. I’m worried about the dosage though? X

I wonder if you are dehydrated? For ages I couldn't understand why I was getting headaches, especially when visiting my Dad's home which is kept very warm. Once I linked it to dehydration and began drinking a lot more, the headaches stopped.

Just a thought....

It can be a sign you’re undermedicated or perhaps over exerting yourself! Maybe dehydrated too? I get headaches if Im under medicated and also, although probably not related to thyroid, when I wear face masks for long periods, so maybe headaches are caused by oxygen depletion?

Hi, I’ve been like this for years too. If anything is slightly “out” in my body I get a migraine. Following on from Slow Dragon’s question about your meds and levels - I have worked out that I need to be REALLY optimally medicated to have fewer issues with migraines and fatigue.

I constantly supplement with a B-complex as my folate drops out within a couple of weeks if I don’t (the one I take was recommended on here - Igennus). The same with vitD.

If all the levels aren’t really optimal I get issues with fatigue and migraines.

I also take thyroxine and a small amount of T3 (Liothyronine).

Again, this makes a HUGE difference if my FT3 level is not good.

Why not put your latest results up (with ref ranges).

You will probably feel and function better with your results in the top 1/4 of the range. But we are all different, so it will be trial and error for you.

I’ve just had an extremely busy 2 weeks (for me) and touch wood have been migraine free. I kept thinking yesterday “I feel good - this is strange - but I like it”. 😎

I hope it lasts. When you have migraines regularly, you can be on edge as to when the next one might hit you.

Thank you. I’m waiting to see if my specialist (I went private in the end) can get some T3. Currently not available in my postcode though. Just want to feel normal again xx

I never had migraines until after I lost my thyroid 4 years ago. I definitely think it’s connected to hormones.
