Anyone else’s eyesight vary madly?

My eyes are much more blurry/tired if I’m taking too much hormone, but equally can be bad if slightly undermedicated.

Really bad the last few days, just made me wonder!

Yes mine can be sooo blurry that I am wearing my glasses more and more! I have only noticed this from undermedicated but then I don’t think I’ve ever been over so 🤷‍♀️

Yeah, it took me a while to recognise the “over” thing but it’s definitely worse then - consistently worse. Other times it varies like today and it drives me nuts! Think I’m maybe a bit under just now but I’d forgotten how annoying it was.

My mum died of early onset dementia that started with her eyesight so it always scares me a bit!

I’m sorry to read that MM. I’m not surprised you’re scared by it. Although I have certainly read posts regarding it from plenty of people connecting this intermittent blurry vision so try not to worry too much.

I have found that I can be fine first thing but by lunch I have my glasses on permanently. I did go for an eye exam a couple of years ago and it was noted I’d only had one the year before. The optician could find no change in my prescription (readers mainly) and said I’d be unlikely to have vision in HD at my age!! I laughed but the cheek ... !!

I’m hoping mine improves as I find my dose. Maybe you need to think about getting your levels checked out? x

Yeah, I keep constant eye on my levels (pardon the pun!) in fact I’m waiting on bloods just now.

I’m on T3 now which has definitely helped but still fluctuates.

I know really that it’s just a thyroid thing but you know what it’s like, you still doubt yourself each time it happens!

I haven’t had my eyes tested for a few years - I have readers but a very tiny prescription and I suspect they haven’t changed much. Like you I use them only occasionally and more when my eyes play up.

It’s reassuring to hear others like yourself have the same problems... it keeps me sane sometimes! 😂

🤣. Pun pardoned.

It does help to know what others experience. You’re right. I do understand why you would worry though. Totally understandable.

Glad t3 has helped. You would expect it to stabilise things though 🤷‍♀️ Have you been on it a while?

Yes. Been on it over two years now but it’s really taken me that time to work out all the variables and find my correct dose.

Now I’m finding however that my hormone cycle is playing havoc with how I feel, and affecting the uptake/use of the T3.

The joys. This is my new area of focus. If I could indeed, focus!

As my lack of thyroid hormone got worse so did my eyesight, I woke up one day with clouds in my eyes and spots everywhere. Optician did a full examination of my eyes and said I had lost 10% of my vision in the last 6 months. Once I got on to ndt things improved. But I know when I have a wipe out my eyes get bad. Hope you improve. Much better on metavive.

Wow. That’s incredible but isn’t it amazing how once treated it improves again?

I fully expect mine will be back to normal in the next few days once my hormone levels change but goodness, it’s such a pain!

Hi - I don't know if this helps or not but I had very dry, itchy and red eyes, really sensitive to the light. Saw an optician and was referred to an eye consultant. He said that the muscles to the eye can sometimes become inflamed with auto immune diseases (just as other things are inflamed) and this can lead to too much blood flow into the eye socket. As the eye socket is fixed (ie.unable to expand) the pressure in the eye can build up and cause the redness and discomfort. I didn't have vision problems though - but wonder if pressure could affect vision - presumably it could. He referred me for an MRI which, because of Covid, took over six months. In the meantime, I had got hold of some T3 (and like you am still trying to get it right) and this has really helped my eye problems (I can't put it down to anything else) and the MRI was clear (so I don't know whether the muscles were inflamed or not). My Mum had dementia too, not early onset, but at 72 (which was far too young), and I understand that certain symptoms can make you worry. I would consider seeing an independent and good optician for an all-round check up and eye test and tell them your concerns, even though it's scary - and see if they an help. I hope I haven't rambled too much. Good luck!

Hello, I have graves disease and thyroid eye disease. My opthamologist advised me to do block and replace because fluctuating thyroid levels particularly being undermedicated can make it worse. My eyes can vary day to day and throughout the day.I have been prescribed Xailin night time ointment and Xialin gel for daytime. My eyesight is much clearer when they are well lubricated and not dry.Hope this helps.

I have been struggling with double vision and blurred vision. My doctor told me a while ago that I have the autoimmune thyroid problem (can't remember the exact terminology). I have low Zinc and high copper. I cannot get the doctor to join the dots. I have just had an extensive eye examination only to be told that my vision problems are due to stress. I am reluctant to confront him as experience tells me that they just shut up shop on the subject. At last he has decided to treat the zinc problem so I will wait to see if that treatment helps in any way.
