BRANDS for 75mg tablet

I want to know what companies make one 75mg levothyroxine tablet, other than Teva. At the moment I take one 50mg and one 25mg tablet but fed up with being given three different brands. My chemist can give me a 75mg Teva, which I don't want to take -help.

Teva is the only brand that makes 75mcg tablets

I have created, and try to maintain, a document containing details of all thyroid hormone medicines in the UK and many in other countries.

The only 75 microgram tablet is from Teva.

The only alternatives you have (without splitting or whatever) are Mercury Pharma (Advanz) who make 25 and 50 microgram tablets and the one you do not want, Teva.

helvella - Thyroid Hormone Medicines.pdf

This document has information about the available thyroid hormones in the UK and, in less detail, around the world.

I normally use the Mercury 25 and 50 to get my 75 but was given the Teva 75 as an option initially I was thrilled as it was more convenient but soon became quite under replaced I believe it’s not as potent as my previous combo and had to abandon it sadly

I cannot take Teva so I take a 25 and a 50 it works very well for me.

I took 1.5 x 50mcg Accord - my GP was quite happy to prescribe 2x50mcg as Teva caused side effects.

I get side effects from thyroxine from the ingredients but the doctors won’t listen to me and just say there are no side effects. I’m at the end of my tether. How did you get through to them?

I gave my GP information I had found about Teva and listed the side effects I was experiencing and said that I refused to accept this brand anymore. They cannot force you to take something that is making you ill.

Is there any reason why you don’t want to split a 50mcg tablet in half? you don’t have to be precise with the splitting because you would be taking the other half the next day. It’s what I do with my 75mcg.

Many people have to work with combinations of tablet dosages to reach the one most suitable for them . If you don't want to split a 50mcg tablet, you can take 50mcg one day, and 100mcg the following day, and continue in this way. Combining differing daily doses, or weekly/weekend dosages is accepted practice to reach the required weekly total.

That’s what doc writes on my prescription, but there’s no way I’d remember what I took the night before. Writing it down is too much of a faff. 🥴

I’m in the same boat but if I’m not mistaken Teva are the only brand that make a 75mcg. I insist on only having Mercury Pharma and so far I have been successful at my pharmacy but they will very often slip another make in which makes me angry because I’ll be given the 50mcg by MP and the 25mcg by whatever make they have in, so I now open my bag in front of the chemist to make sure that I have the right one and keep my fingers crossed that they continue to be able to supply it.

I'd encourage everyone to open the bag in the pharmacy - before moving away from the counter.

I always do. Usually trying to say something to explain - "I always check, just in case." - and smile. Sometimes the pharmacy staff have agreed it is wise. Though whether they were humouring me or happy that any errors would be caught early, rather than after taking the wrong product, I am not sure. :-)

When I started taking 75 mcg I stupidly didnt look until got home, so did an about turn and took them straight back. When I got there the lady behind the counter said that she was sorry but couldn’t take them back, so I stood my ground and asked why would anyone want or expect me to take a pill that would give me 24/7 headaches for a whole month ? So she caved in but said I would have to wait until they were in stock, so I now order in plenty of time just in case. However they wouldn’t take the other packs back for exchange (because I had walked out of the pharmacy with them) so I handed them over and asked her to dispose of them for me as they wouldn’t be used. She took them off me and said she would....absolute crazy!! I assume that they would be destroyed 🤷‍♀️

Wockhardt do a 25 mcg tablet, so I take one of those with a 50mcg Mercury Pharma.....Works for me!

I currently take 3, Wockhardt 25mcg tablets most days and feel much better on those than on any of the other brands. They are tiny little pills so they are easy to swallow and if you have a bit of a variation (TSH a little bit high or a little bit low) you can easily adjust it by a slight variation in the number of pills you take each day. I currently take 2 of the pills on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday, as 3 every day was reducing my TSH slightly too much.
