Hi, I wonder if anyone can offer any advice regarding differences in T3 brands. I am posting on behalf of a close friend who has Hashimotos. She has had a very bumpy ride since I’ve know her the past 13 years, but we felt she was in a stable place (by enlarge pain free) once she started on T3 which she bought over the counter from Greece. As we all know, that isn’t possible anymore and here is where the problems started. She sent her private prescription to a German pharmacy and stocked up on Thybon- Henning T3. The issues haven’t come about suddenly but the pain is creeping back into her life more and more, despite increasing her dose to 20mg twice a day from 10mg twice a day of uni-pharma T3. Obviously she is keen to stop the progression and can only relate the pain coming back to the switch in T3 brand. So my question is do brands differ in effectiveness and if so does anyone know of a reliable pharmacy where my friend can send her prescription to buy uni-pharma T3. She has seen a website online that claims to sell it. However it seems too good to be true and I noticed they spell prescription wrong on the side of the packet, which rang alarm bells to me. My friend feels desperate enough to try anything so I thought I would ask you all for help to try and stop her doing something silly.
Thanks.

When were thyroid levels and vitamin levels last tested
What vitamin supplements is she currently taking
Does she always get same brand of levothyroxine?
Does she split the T3 into 2 or 3 smaller doses
As she has Hashimoto’s is she on strictly gluten free diet
For full Thyroid evaluation she needs TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least annually
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .
Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
Day before test split T3 into 3 doses approx 8 hours apart
If/when also on T3, make sure to take last third of daily dose 8-12 hours prior to test, even if this means adjusting time or splitting of dose day before test
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins
I tried Thybon as it’s a quarter of the price of Sigma but I started going backwards very quickly so went back to Sigma.
Clearly big differences in brands and we are all individual. Doctors don’t recognise this.
I imagine if I had started on Thybon we would have concluded T3 does not work for me and I’d be left on the scrap heap as someone who has it “in their head” or prescribed anti depressant as that’s the easiest thing for doctors to prescribe sadly.
