T3 dosing times

I have been taking T3 liothyrinine 50mcg all at once early in morning but someone suggested it should be taken throughout day as short lived. Can anyone say which is more beneficial?

How do you feel on morning dosing?

T3 does have a shorter half life (24 hrs) than T4 (5/7 days) but we all react differently to this.

I've (deliberately) missed a few days with no discernible problems.

I take 75mcg T3 in a single dose at bedtime..... 200mcg previously at maximum. For me, it is easier to avoid all food and drinks. Splitting the dose doesn't work for meThe usual answer is that we are all different with different needs and trial and error is often the way to go.

If it works don't change it!

Ok I will just carry on as I am. Splitting dose would be difficult as would forget if during day. Is it best to take away from food?

Yes, should be taken on an empty stomach. I tend to leave an hour either side of T3 before/ after food or drinks.

For me that is easiest done if dose is taken a bedtime....we all differ.

Hope you manage to get your prescription sorted, I self medicate so " I march to the beat of my own drum".

Take care.

I take 75 mcg T3 only, and I take it all at once in the morning. And, that is the right way for me to do it.

People who talk about T3 not 'lasting very long', frankly, don't know what they're talking about. The half-life of T3 in the blood is 24 hours. Which means that if you took 50 mcg this morning, there would be 25 approximately left tomorrow morning - minus what gets into the cells. But, T3 in the blood doesn't do anything, anyway. It only does anything when it gets into the cells. And, it stays in the cells for three days. Meanwhile, you continue adding 5 mcg every morning, so it can't run out.

That said, a lot of people do feel better if they split their dose. The problem with that is that it's still better to take it on an empty stomach, away from food, etc. just like levo, for maximum absorption. Which can be difficult.

Alse, knowing into how many doses, and when to take them is a very personal affair, and takes a lot of experimentation to find out what's best for you. We're all different, and one size does not fit all. So, don't let anyone tell you you're dosing it wrong. Find out for yourself which is more beneficial. :)

Thankyou for this. I think better for me all in Morning. I am under threat of having it stopped as well on prescription. Boots rang yesterday and said finding difficult to get mercury pharma and would I take Morningside. I cannot take any other brand as makes me unwell . So worried about this.
