Hello all,

I have just popped into Superdrug and they take back / recycle blister packs of medication. And a reminder they also dispose of expired / unused medicine. Please remove identity labels. You can check if your local store does this: healthunlocked.com/api/redi... (thanks Helvella for the link.)

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Edit: ALLL pharmacies take in old/expired/unwanted meds EXCEPT sharps. Not just Superdrug.

Thanks for that!

Does anyone know if other pharmacies do so?

(We do have a Superdrug but I never normally go there.)

According to Recyclenow:

How to dispose of unwanted medicines

Return them to a pharmacy or chemist for safe disposal.

Do not flush medicines down the toilet.

Tablet blister packs are not recyclable and should be placed in the waste bin when empty.

The cardboard box that houses the blister packs can be recycled, as can any paper inserts.

Our council includes blister packs in their list of recyclables.

Hello Helvella, on the Terracycle website you can pin point your area and which pharmacies take the blister packs. Superdrug is the only one that I know of that takes them in all branches.

As for old/expired/unwanted tablets/ capsules etc. All pharmacies take them. They do not take sharps.

Drat!

Just checked Terracycle - not all branches of Superdrug are doing it. Our nearest branches are not. :-(

This link takes you to a map/locator:

Thank you! I emailed them and they replied yes 🙄 I also asked at my second to local store same reply and that pharmacist has been there for at least 12 years. I’ll amend my post. Thank you Helvella. Saved the day again. 🤗

Thanks for the information.I looked on the map and there is nothing between Worthing and Bognor unfortunately. But I will start saving and when we are allowed to go out by government...not to mention nervous husband...I’ll be able to donate my used packs.

That’s a shame but all about solutions! I was going to post mine in as I’m self isolating. But I had to pop out for a hospital appointment. And luckily the bus stopped in front of a Superdrug. I do worry I’m OTT with my recycling.

I don’t think anyone can be OTT with recycling, the more the merrier and makes for a cleaner world.
