Short date on T3

Hi all

Hope everyone is well. I am on t3 only prescribed by my Endo and have to get my prescription from the hospital every three months. In December I was given three months supply dated June 2021. Since then I feel that I have had symptoms return, lack of energy, depression and anxiety. I have had symptoms that I haven’t had for years, my hair is falling out at an extreme rate and my nails have vertical ridges and big bumps in them. I remember having this before I was diagnosed in 2004.

I just picked up my new three month prescription and they were of the same date, June 2021 which feels disheartening to me to have another three months of tablets that I feel have less efficacy.

I told the pharmacist but he said that as they are still in date there is nothing he can do as he doesn’t have anymore.

I have emailed my consultant but I am not sure if anything can be done as I am just inside the line. I’ve also asked for my latest test results (I did ask the receptionist last week but she was not helpful and suggested I go through health records, which would cost about £50 )

Any advice would be appreciated

Thank you

When were your thyroid and vitamin levels last tested

How much T3 are you currently taking

Do you split dose, or take as single dose

Which brand of T3?

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

As you have Hashimoto’s are you on strictly gluten free diet

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least annually

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

If/when on T3, make sure to take last third or quarter of daily dose 8-12 hours prior to test, even if this means adjusting time or splitting of dose day before test

Is this how you do your tests?

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins

List of private testing options

Medichecks Thyroid plus antibodies and vitamins

Thriva Thyroid plus antibodies and vitamins By DIY fingerpick test

Thriva also offer just vitamin testing

Blue Horizon Thyroid Premium Gold includes antibodies, cortisol and vitamins by DIY fingerprick test

If you can get GP to test vitamins and antibodies then cheapest option for just TSH, FT4 and FT3

I take my t3 which is Mercury Pharmacy in split doses of 20,10, 10. I took my last thyroid test about two weeks ago but cannot get the results as yet. I have emailed the Endo so should get results soon.

However, I take my vitals and temperature regularly as I am on t3 and these along with my symptoms show that I am not optimal.

Thank you for all your suggestions, as a seasoned thyroid patient I am fully aware of everything. I have been treading the forums since 2004.

It’s really around the efficacy of the short date of the t3 I was wondering about. Whether this could be a significant factor in symptom return? Do I have any reasoned arguments for asking for a new set of tablets with a better date?

Thank you :)

Personally I thought Mercury Pharma became less effective the longer the pot of tablets was open. And always very short use by date.

I changed to Morningside healthcare T3. Long shelf life and blister packed
