Hi everyone. I've long thought that a lot of my issues stem from my thyroid - my levels are like a yoyo - what does my doc say - oh it's because it's over medicated, or under, lets change this that and the other. OK, so that's what I've been doing, for a long time, however.... I have a few other issues, gallstones (the size of golf balls!) and NAFLD, hey world, I eat well! I've been battling a couple of docs regarding this and today a 'random' GP said, oh, you have an under active thyroid, that explains the cholesterol levels etc etc... hallelujah, someone understands!!! At last a doc who says that my cholesterol levels are due to my thyroid, thus my liver and he's asking for a cholestomy - no more fighting! Well, lets hope that that is what happens, I'll let you know!

If you have high cholesterol your thyroid levels are likely not correct
How much levothyroxine are you currently taking
Do you always get same brand of levothyroxine
What vitamin supplements are you currently taking
Gallstones common with hypothyroid
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if you have autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) diagnosed by raised Thyroid antibodies
Ask GP to test vitamin levels
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .
Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
If/when also on T3, make sure to take last third or quarter of daily dose 8-12 hours prior to test, even if this means adjusting time or splitting of dose day before test
Is this how you do your tests?
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins
