Choose your brand ....T3 !

Update

As I’m under the endo care ( thank goodness) my T3 is still getting prescribed but by the hospital pharmacy.

I’ve just spoke with them who tell me that I cannot choose the brand i want you’ll have to take whatever comes in .

I said Mercury pharma don’t suit neither do Teva

Hopefully morningside will be the one favoured by the hospital as I was given that brand whilst I was in hospital last year

I assume that the details will be sent to your GP (I assume the make will not be stated) for you to be prescribed T3. You can ask the pharmacist to try to source the make you prefer.

Yes I’ve done that , this prescription is been fulfilled by the hospital tho , I have requested morningside but will have to wait snd see what they order . There should be laws to stop overcharging prescribed meds . They should all contain same ingredients and be the same price

I agree.

They are all the same price regardless of which brand it is

Currently £137 for 28 tablets of 20mcg

Obviously many patients can’t tolerate changing brand T3 or levothyroxine

If all contained the same ingredients, it would make life even harder for anyone who is intolerant to any of them.

At least at present there is a possibility that if we are intolerant to one product, due to ingredients, we will not be intolerant to another product.

The price issue is also difficult. If one of the companies wanted to reduce their price, they would have to agree that lower price with the NHS business people, who would have to ensure that the other companies did the same. This would be tantamount to collusion.

Seems to be the sad case , but that they have to consider is would they take a brand of meds that make them ill. I’d listen to the patient but that’s me .
