I have a question regarding the following paragraph:
'If you have thyroid cancer, you should definitely take the Governments advice and be shielded although shielded people can now start to go outside.'
Does this apply to those who've had thyroid cancer which has been treated?
I wasn't at any point told to shield, and when I asked the GP about having to go into work with asthma (I work in education) - he said his hands were tied, and I should go in, as per government guidelines..
I believe the cancer guidance covers those who currently are undergoing cancer treatment, as chemotherapy kills off the immune system, while other treatments leave it weakened. If you have been cancer free for a while, you should be fine
Hi Lyn, my reply is slightly off the point, but I was wondering if you could tell me if Hashimoto's people are o.k to have the COVID vaccine?
I am due fairly soon to receive the Text inviting me.
I asked my GP and he couldn’t help, plus I looked on the British Thyroid Foundation sight but that wasn’t a lot of help( regarding Hashimotos). And I also wrote to the Thyroid Patients Advocacy people, but have not had a reply , as yet.
I don't mind you asking but I'm afraid I don't have the answer. There's no research done on this yet as it's too early for the data. I'm hoping it will be ok for us all. I'm using the Covid 19 app and they have started getting people to input their data so hopefully it won't be long before we know.
Thanks for coming back to me on my question Lynn! One of the companies I contacted was Thyroid Patient Advocacy, and within the last 1/2 hour I have had an email back from someone telling me they are going to get their Trustees to look into it for me.
So if or when they come back to me, I will contact you with the information. At your office, of course.
Sorry to trouble you but could you tell me if you found out anything please? I feel ill every single day and my fear is that if I have it it nay knock me out even worse. I’m in uk and as far as I been told everyone without exception will be required to take it regardless of any disease you have. I Hope you don’t mind me asking only I’m so fearful I’m literally been sick with worry over this.
Timetraveler67, 'everyone without exception will be required to take it'
I don't know where you've heard this, but it isn't true. Everyone will be OFFERED the opportunity to be vaccinated, but no-one is forced to have it if they choose not to.
It's a matter for personal choice. Vaccinations are being rolled out and offered to everyone, to protect them from COVID-19. You can choose not to be vaccinated, although this is likely to leave you at greater risk of catching the virus.
There is still no research other than some people will have some minor side effects. The vaccine is NOT obligatory although, of course, it will be safer for you and others to have it. You could leave it for a while to see if research on thyroid disease and the vaccine comes out. If you haven't already, you could take a look at our poll to see what people are saying - healthunlocked.com/thyroidu....
Hello, no I didn’t get any replies from any of the people I contacted, and I too was anxious to know what to do. As I have Hashimotos, under active thyroid, and low adrenals,. So a long way from feeling well........however I went on the HU listings of members thyroid position, their health symptoms, what vaccines they had and how they got on afterwards.
It was very helpful and surprised me how successful they were, even thought they didn’t all have a perfect health picture.
So I would suggest you have a look and scroll down yourself , on the HU post :-
Thyroid Disorder and COVID-19 Vaccination- what was your experience? ONLY respond when YOU HAVE actually received a COVID-19 vaccination.
I wish you well. I had my jab 2 weeks ago, and all went well, except for tiredness for the first week and a sore arm for two days afterwards. I do feel relieved, and I’m sure we can overthink this whole thing ?
