My son has just had a test for ADHD and is positive so has anyone else had to deal with this and their Thyroid problems, my sons problems seem to getting more and more complex so I wondered if anyone is taking both thyroid meds and ADHD meds and what the effect was.

Looking at previous posts your son has Hashimoto’s

Hashimoto’s can be misdiagnosed as ADHD and symptoms often over lap

When did he last have FULL thyroid and vitamin testing

What vitamin supplements is he currently taking

Is he on absolutely strictly gluten free diet

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

If/when also on T3, or NDT make sure to take last third or quarter of daily dose 8-12 hours prior to test, even if this means adjusting time or splitting of dose day before test

Is this how he does his tests?

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins

List of private testing options

Medichecks Thyroid plus antibodies and vitamins

medichecks.com/products/adv...

Thriva Thyroid plus antibodies and vitamins By DIY fingerpick test

Thriva also offer just vitamin testing

Blue Horizon Thyroid Premium Gold includes antibodies, cortisol and vitamins by DIY fingerprick test

If you can get GP to test vitamins and antibodies then cheapest option for just TSH, FT4 and FT3

£29 (via NHS private service ) and 10% off down to £26.10 if go on thyroid uk for code

Also vitamin D available as separate test via MMH

Or alternative Vitamin D NHS postal kit

Finally able to access you.He does regular blood tests He will be doing another private blood test next week before considering any other medication. His symptoms are so complex as is his complex condition. He is now getting Mental help and ADHD help but who knows what is going on as he almost fluctuates how he feels from hour to hour.He is either very fatigued or cannot keep still. If only someone had the answer. Is it mental? Thyroid?ADHD? who knows.Three years ago he had nothing to indicate this would happen until he was diagnosed with a Thyroid condition and then put on Levothyroxine and within days we were at a crisis centre. He is now on Armour but he is so up and down we are all at a loss as to what will help him.

Make sure to stop any vitamin supplements that contain biotin a week before ALL blood tests

If supplementing iron, stop this a week before testing ferritin levels

All thyroid tests should be done as early as possible in morning before eating or drinking anything other than water and last 1/3 of daily dose of Armour 8-12 hours before blood test

What vitamin supplements is he currently taking

Is he on absolutely strictly gluten free diet......frequently this helps or is absolutely essential for anyone with Hashimoto’s
