Hello, I wondered if anyone has any info/links to info regarding the effect of thyroxine on the body’s immune response? Does your body naturally produce more thyroxine when fighting off an infection? Are thyroxine levels affected for people with hypothyroidism when fighting an infection? Many thanks in advance

I cannot answer your questions with any authority. All I can say is that whilst on synthetic levothyroxine alone after a total thyroidectomy and RAI, I lost a kidney to cancer.Losing the other could prove fatal, so there's no way I will ever switch back from NDT to take levothyroxine again, with or without the addition of liothyronine.
The other minor hormones within NDT may or may not play an important part in the body's immunity. I simply do not know, but I ain't risking it.
“Does your body naturally produce more thyroxine when fighting off an infection?”Short answer: I don’t know if the body produces more or less thyroxine (T4).
But when there is inflammation present, more T4 will be converted to inactive reverse T3 (lowering active free T3) as a measure to lower metabolism rate.
Being without a thyroid I find that when ill, or when I was recovering right after my recent hip replacement, I felt better when I skipped doses of my NDT.
