Problem with voice
Yes, I was undermedicated!
Yes, it was how my doctor diagnosed me. I’d gone to see her about being so tired all the time, but she heard my croaky voice and decided to test me for an under active thyroid.
Yes I've had this and pulsating tinnitus so my dr referred me and I had a scan on my throat ears and brain. All was clear. My throat seems a lot better since I've been put up to 75mg levo. The hospital gave me a sheet on vocal hygiene sucking sugar free sweets keep sipping water try not to keep clearing your throat are a few of the suggestions on the sheet. Hope this helps.
Yes. I get that when undermedicated, very hoarse voice (to the point of losing it if I carry on talking), definitely not sore.
My voice started going deeper, then they found I had nodules on my thyroid. I am know going to have a thyroid test .
My voice went really deep - I used to sound like a darlek! It was monotonous and without any emotional expressiveness and somehow weak too. I was ignored by others, it was as if I didn’t exist, which felt awful. I was in serious need of treatment there were no nodules as far as I know, but I didn’t have a functioning thyroid when I finally got a diagnosis (I was very poorly indeed) and my voice became more normal again with thyroid hormone therapy
Yes I've lost my voice for five weeks now. I'm on steroids to see if they help. I've had two stronger lots of antibiotics. No cold I had a sticky throat before but no tempreture. Felt really fatigued. Tried to get a covid test as was a bit concerned. But didn't pass the criteria for one. I don't know what else to do. I've just read up to not speak for three days which is not easy to do really. Il rest it as much as I can. I do get laryngitis yearly but nothing like this chronic flare.. Hope you feel OK soon
.
That’s awful. I hope it resolves soon. I think it can be related to not being properly medicated, perhaps you need an increase. I am fine now, no problems with my voice at all.
There are quite a few scholarly articles on hypothyrodism/hyperthyroidism and it’s effect on voice. Seems even slight lack of hormones can have quite a noticeable effect. If you Google: scholar thyroid disorder voice you will find a few more including this one:
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...
Could be useful for persuading a doctor who is unaware of the link?
Thank you. I'm now out of steroids so have done my vest to ask for a Dr to call back. I have no thyroid now. And self treat on ndt. I'm in the UK so don't think I have much chance of getting anything else as my ebdo said levo is not right for me with all my other comorbillities. I'm menopausal so phaps that plays a part. My throat feels sticky. I've not had a cold or anything so just find it all a bit strange. My niece said I sound as though I'm on hellium. Although I don't think it's that bad. Just hope it will go soon as its zapping any energy I had. Glad your feeling better. Thank you for your reply.
