My hair used to be very thick and wavy, now it's straight and really thin. Will it thicken once I get my thyroid levels treated?

Does hair thicken back up once you treat the thyroid?
Yes it will as long as there is nothing else going on like low ferritin or low vitamin D. I have had two lots of extreme hair loss (50%) and both times my hair grew back but it will take time. I had extremely thick curly hair over 12 years ago before I got thyroid disease. My hair has been growing back for over a year now but it isn't as thick as it once was because of having several years of losing hundreds of hairs a day.
Do you have any blood results to share with us? We need the TSH, T4 and T3. Also any vitamin levels you might have like B12, Iron and ferritin, vitamin D and folate. Just to add ferritin needs to be over 80 for hair growth.
I have just looked at your previous post and see your TSH is 6.62 can you add your results and ranges to your post please? I think your TSH is too high and your thyroid is struggling because usually it would be about 1. For example my husband who doesn't have thyroid disease has a TSH of 0.97.
Hi, I have graves disease which causes my thyroid to overact. The treatment I am on as caused me to go very underactive for a while until they manage to balance my medication. One of the symptoms l had was that I was losing loads of hair both when I washed or combed it.Also my curly hair was sort of flat and lifeless and felt horrible like a brillo pad. When they managed to get my levels stabilised my hair started to improve. It has gone back to how it used to be.Of course it takes a bit of time.I also used to dye my hair which I don't think helped.I have cut it a bit shorter and stopped dyeing it and it has come back a treat.Hope this gives you encouragement as I know how important it is to feel that your hair looks nice.
In my experience no it won't, there are 7 of us in my family with thyroid problems and none of us have the hair we once had.
