How can I get Actavis in the US

I have a very challenging problem and I was hoping for some suggestions. I am a US citizen, living in the States. I have discovered that I can't tolerate the four brands of Levo that are sold here. (Two cause anxiety, the other two cause extreme stomach upset.) I am very sensitive. I also wasn't able to tolerate NDT and compounded meds. But I have been feeling very hopeful about Actavis because it is so well-tolerated by so many in the UK. I was all set to fly to England, meet with an endo and get a script. Then Covid happened. I know English pharmacies can't accept US prescriptions, and UK doctors can't treat first-time patients via phone, etc. Any suggestions for how to get Actavis while living in US? Thanks so much!

I'm in the US. What four brands have you tried and what is it that you're sensitive to? Euthyrox is available and it doesn't have any dyes, lactose or gluten. It's a Merck brand, which is available oversees but available in the US. I tried Levoxyl and did well with it. I did not do okay with Unithroid or Synthroid and just sort of okay with generic Levos.

Hi there! Sorry for the delay in my response. I have tried Synthroid, Levoxyl, Tirosint and Unithroid. I have also tried natural desiccated thyroid (Armour) and compounded thyroid medication. I'm glad Levoxyl has worked well for you. It wreaked havoc on my stomach. :(

Euthyrox is distributed and labelled as Provell Euthyrox in the USA.

Activis has recently been rebranded to Accord. In theory tablets inside are exactly the same. In practice several members are convinced they are different

Presumably you can get liquid levothyroxine in USA

Why not try that. Often better tolerated

I did try liquid levothyroxine, called Tirosint-SOL. It was a disaster and caused terrible irritable bowel.

I'm really surprised that you only have four brands of Levo available to you in the US. I thought there were far more available than that. You can find out more about the drugs available for prescription in the USA using this website :

dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/

About the website :

DailyMed provides trustworthy information about marketed drugs in the United States. DailyMed is the official provider of FDA label information (package inserts). This Web site provides a standard, comprehensive, up-to-date, look-up and download resource of medication content and labeling found in medication package inserts.

The National Library of Medicine (NLM) provides this as a public service and does not accept advertisements. The drug labeling information on this Web site is the most recent submitted to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and currently in use; it may include, for example, strengthened warnings undergoing FDA review or minor editorial changes. These labels have been reformatted to make them easier to read.

To search for Levothyroxine the best way of doing that is to restrict the drugs you are searching for to human drugs only, and then search for Levothyroxine. Be aware that the drugs listed aren't guaranteed to be unique - some of them may be the same products which have been given different packaging.

Just a note to be careful.

SlowDragon has already pointed out that the Actavis branded products - like their levothyroxine - in the UK have been re-branded as Accord.

But, and this could be important, Accord Levothyroxine in the USA is a different formulation, manufactured by Intas.
