OLD on blood results

OLD does indeed mean old. The blood sample needs to go to the lab the same day for some tests including Folate Potassium chloride and sodium.

My bloods were taken in the afternoon so we’re sent to the lab the next day.

A lesson that bloods should be taken early morning. I shall have them done again.

This can be an issue if you are purchasing for home testing. My last sample took 5 days to arrive despite a 1st class frank. I was assured that the sample will not deteriorate due to the chemicals its mixed with and can remain good and reliable for some time. Im not so sure!

I actually spoke to the lab at the hospital that processes the test. He said it deteriorates within 24 hours and that the GP should be aware that it has to be sent the same day.

That certainly is a concern with home testing then.
