I recently got a private script for t3 and managed to get it from the German site given on this site.i rang the number and spoke in English with a helpful chap who explained I could place the order then post my script with a covering letter with the order number on it. It came a few days later and I paid just less than £35 for 100 x 20. Just to clarify to those people who wanted to know how I got on. I’ve started taking it in 2 doses one tablet split morning and afternoon.i haven’t felt great tbh but am going to persevere hoping my body will adapt. I also take 100 mcg thyroxine at night as this suits me better. Good luck x

That’s a high dose to start on

We normally recommend starting on just 5mcg T3

(easy to cut into 1/4’s with scalpel)

Assuming all going ok ...after a week or so add 2nd 1/4 tablet T3 mid-late afternoon

Possibly hold at that and retest bloods in 6-8 weeks

Or if going ok add 3rd 1/4 tablet at bedtime

How much levothyroxine were you taking before adding T3?

A good sharp knife will do...the pill cutter didn't do the cutting as well as I've done with knife...:) Good LUck

That’s quite a drop in levothyroxine

What were thyroid results on 150mcg dose

TSH, Ft4 and Ft3

Does depend how high Ft4 was, before starting on T3 .....depends how much you need to reduce levothyroxine

Eg

if Ft4 substantially over range you might drop Levothyroxine by 50mcg

If Ft4 at top of range you might drop Levothyroxine by 25mcg

If Ft4 at mid range, unlikely to need to reduce levothyroxine at all

I took L- Thyroxine 100 mg and once a week instead T3. But I felt miserable and had many inflammations, was always tired, getting more weight..... Because I did not get an appointment with GP or Endo, I contacted a specialist in another country.

I sent all necessary details to this specialist and he advised me to take Metavive II 80.

I am now 2 months further, I feel much better, no inflamed parts anymore. He told me that the adrenal gland is irritated and I better should wait a bit until the adrenal glands are not so irritated anymore.

After one week taking Metavive II 80, my body temperature is now from 35.6 C or 35.7 C gone up to 36.4 C - 36.6 C. I even feel that my body is changing and I am more active.

This specialist explained that my body had to work toooo hard with the hormones of L- Thyroxine, because of my age; my body does not produce the necessary enzymes anymore.

I feel much better and the next blood test will show, if I can trust my body.

When taking any T3 or Metavive it’s essential to take EXACTLY same dose everyday

Suggest you write a new post of your own....rather than hijack this one

Thank you so much. Susie

Hi SlowDragon thanks for your response. My tsh was under at 0.05 (0.2-4-2) and T4 near the top at 22.7 (11-23.0)

The thing is this test was unexpected as I was going for something else to be tested and they said oh we might as well test your thyroid ! So I had taken my thyroxine and had breakfast and it was like late morning so the results were not the best they could be.

I didn’t get my t3 tested.

Thanks x

So you probably only need to reduce levothyroxine by 25mcg not 50mcg

Desperate-Suzi in reply to SlowDragon

Thanks I will take your advice .. I’ve ordered a scalpel from the link and I managed to cut with a sharp knife this morning ( not a clean cut though) but took a quarter ish. Will stick with quarters for a while .. x

Hi. I was on 150mcg levo when I added lio, quarter tablet at first then building up to 20mcg. I never reduced the levo dose, not sure there is a clear swap and I’ve always been sensitive to even tiny changes to levo so possibly need a decent t4 level. Perhaps your body needs more t4 as well.

I take everything in a single dose around 4am.

Valeriu profile image
Valeriu in reply to Desperate-Suzi

Sorry...do you mean you've taken 2x12.5mcg of liothyronine? I could only manage ( build up over 10 days or more) to take 8.5mcg of T3 ( first dose in morning then another 3 hours later and another 2 or 3 hours later ) then the 30 mg NP ......Good LUck :)

Glad you got T3 and at a decent price. Starting on a full tablet is brave! Some folks on here say its the way to go; others start in doses of a quarter tablet and increase by a quarter every 2 weeks to help them adjust. Again its an individual thing.

Hope things go well for you.

McPammy profile image

Cut your tablets into quarters. Take 5mcg twice a day to start with. 20mcg twice a day to begin with is far too much. I wouldn’t lower your T4 at all just yet. No wonder you are feeling bad.

There was a company I got my T3 from and it was a 25mg for I think 100 tablets for around £20 ( THINK THEY WERE LOCATED IN bULGARIA) nO PRESCRIPTIONW AS NEEDED; hOWEVER i WISH i COULD FIND CHEAPER NLIOTHYRONINE 5MCG ( sorry for caps). However, I only use NDT's now; the most of T3 I took was 8.5mcg in 2 doses with 1/2 grain of NDT :)

Hi, do you have the contact details or website link for the firm you got the T3 from without a prescription please? My gp has cut mine down due to budget retstraints and I could really do with increasing the dose back up to feel well again (freezing all the time and exhausted). I've also considered trying NDT to top up as an alternative to T3, but am not sure how many grains I would need etc.. and think you still need a prescription for it too? - Thanks

This exactly the same regimen and doses as me. I didn’t feel great immediately, but after four weeks I feel much better. I keep forgetting the lunchtime half tablet though. I’m starting to lose a bit of weight and am warmer, but my hair is getting greasy!

Desperate-Suzi profile image
Desperate-Suzi in reply to MirandaIV

Oh that’s good to know ! (Apart from the greasy hair haha ) did you start with quarters or half’s? X

MirandaIV profile image
MirandaIV in reply to Desperate-Suzi

I started with half of one Thybon 20mcg tabs in the morning and 100mcg levothyroxine at night. ( I was on 125mcg).

I mostly don’t take the lunchtime dose. I keep meaning to add it, but forget

The hair is a pain, but in good condition now! my TSH is very low, so I may have to reduce one or other T4 or T3 , but it’s lovely being warm again.

Oh that sounds good ! I am currently at home working with a hot water bottle on the floor for my feet! With 2 pairs socks ! Always so cold 🥶! X

If your getting greasy hair you probably need your levels checked my skin and hair changed when I was abit over medicated

I know. I spent years like that. Always a hot water bottle and a blanket even in the mildest weather. I used to take blankets out with me.

It’s amazing how many years we are like this before we put two and two together.

I reduced my levo by just 25mcg 2 weeks before I started the T3.

Started the T3 as suggested on here. 5mcg with levo. For a week then another 5mcg at bedtime.

I get mine from Germany too, I just break them into 1/4S. They aren’t exact, but I make sure I take as close to a half per day.

When I first started taking my

T3 I felt fab and could have played tennis At Wimbledon (I was watching on tv). It lasted about 6 weeks then levelled out.

Be sure to keep an eye on your vitamins and minerals too. If I let them slip I feel rough again quite quickly.

It’s a juggling act, but if you get a good day or three it’s amazing. ☺️
