It's Thyroid Awareness Week!

Laura Wilkinson has Graves' disease and wants to extend the eligibility for MedEx (the medical exemption list.) The medical exemption list is a list of conditions where prescriptions are free. Hypothyroidism is on this list as it's a lifelong condition but unfortunately, Graves' disease/hyperthyroidism is not on the list.

Many people with hyperthyroidism are on treatment long term to keep their thyroid levels balanced.

Lyn,

Your words don't make it 100% clear whether "Graves' disease/hyperthyroidism is not." applies to being on the list, or being a lifelong condition. Just in case someone who is at all unfamiliar comes along:

My take is that a) it is not on the list; b) it is a lifelong condition - even if the resultant hyperthyroidism is not.

(Note: The prescription charges only apply in England but, I believe, anyone in the UK can sign the petition.)
