Hello everyone, I just wanted to see if weak legs and muscles + shakey hands and thumb + just feeling really weak and shakey throughout is a symptom of thyroid issues? and has anyone else suffered with these symptoms? Xxx

Weak legs and muscles and shakey hands
I find that lower leg pain and pain walking are signs I'm under-medicated. Are you on thyroid meds? Have you had your latest blood results?
Hi Bethcox ,
Yeah I had very weak muscles in my legs and had a lot of muscle loss.
I was diagnosed with graves.
Any exercise is always felt more than others.
Muscle weakness is very common among thyroid issues.
Best wishes to you and hope you get sorted.
I have all these symptoms and more. I have just been diagnosed, taking meds and waiting for them to kick in. Good luck with your diagnosis. It always helps to know for sure and start some treatment!
Hi. I am a Graves patient. I go to the gym but I have lost all my muscles. Legs felt very weak. I wish you well and there are a lot of good people here who will help and support you. 🦄
I got terrible muscle weakness. No pain just weakness. Started in my legs but went all over my body. I was already on Levothyroxine and had been for 11 years. I have Hashimotos. Constant weak issues until I got a lot worse and became housebound. I eventually went private. In 2 consultations I was diagnosed and prescribed T3 medication. Im a very poor converter T4 to T3 I took a DIO2 gene test also which came back positive. Now on T3 and Levothyroxine my life has been transformed. I’m fit healthy and happy at last. So get your T3 checked and if it’s low get the DIO2 gene test done to help your case in getting T3 medication off the NHS, it worked for me.
Me too! I am a medical student and it really affected my ability to assist during surgeries! My hands would tremble like crazy and my muscles became tired extremely quickly! I also sweated insanely. It drove me insane!
I cannot wait for my thyroid to be removed!
I had general muscle weakness with Graves but 15 months after RAI it came on suddenly really bad in my legs and I've needed a wheelchair ever since. Tests found I had extremely low vitamin D so had developed osteomalacia. Might be worth getting that checked as once it's gone too far it can't be reversed.
When you posted three days ago SeasideSusie suggested you obtained test results from your Surgery. You replied that you would do so ... Can you post the results with ranges so we can offer some advice ...
I see you had B12 injections for a week. Were you tested for PA ?
I am having my bloods taken on the 18th I was tested for PA but said it was fine however was really anaemic in pregnancy x
Did you ask for your test results - they are legally yours. Does your surgery have an on-line facility for viewing your records ? Have you asked ? You could ring the surgery and ask them to forward them ie arrange collection.
Testing for PA can produce false negatives.
If you were anaemic before - have you been re-tested ? Did you have a FULL Iron Profile done ? Are you supplementing Iron ?
Are you able to have Private Testing done at home - through Thyroid UK and Medichecks ? The NHS very rarely do the correct testing.
I get these symptoms, I've been on thyroxine for around 10 years which did improve how I felt at the beginning somewhat but the weakness and shaking has just increased year on year until I'm just about unable to do much at all. My TSH is very high but my T4 is normal. I'm planning a private blood test to see if my T3 is ok which the NHS don't recognise as being a problem so won't test. I hope you get some resolution to your problems soon x
You state "My TSH is very high but my T4 is normal".
To know whether or not you are converting T4 into T3, you need a full blood test. Blood draw should always be at the very earliest, fasting (you can drink water) and allow a gap of 24 hours between last dose and test and take it afterwards.
A Full Thyroid Test is:
TSH, T4, T3, Free T4, Free T3 and thyroid antibodies.
If GP wont (or lab) do all of these, you can get a private blood test through one of the recommended labs. Rarely do they test the 'frees' but these are the most informative.
If you decide to do so, make sure you are well-hydrated a couple of days before and arms/hands are warm. The are finger pin-prick tests.
The aim is a TSH of 1 or lower and FT4 and FT3 in the upper part of the ranges.
The aim is no symptoms at all and we feel well.
Hi I feel the same way weak and shaky like inside my body. Doctor has change meds hoping things will get better.
