LATE HRT

Hello, I've started HRT 3 months ago - 100 UTROGESTAN and 1mg Estradiol- I am 58 years old and my period stopped 11 years ago.

I am just wondering if it could be unsafe starting so late. I've heard different opinions on this. I am benefiting a lot from the progesterone, I sleep better.

I have osteopenia.

Thank you

Goodness how unusual to be starting HRT at your age. My HRT was stopped when I was in my early forties as I had not had a period for two years. I know lots of friends who have been treated when older but usually because they had the menopause at 50 or later. I do hope it helps you to feel better.

I’m curious to know why you started HRT. Why did your doctor or gynae prescribe it?

Assuming your estradiol is transdermal, my gynae prescribed exactly the same combo for me three years ago when I was 56 and hadn’t had a period for 4 years. I had continuing bad menopause symptoms, however, which it definitely helped with. I’m still using it.

There are definite risks involved, although I believe they’re somewhat less if you take bio-identicals, as mine is, and you begin taking it before age 60. At the end of the day it was a quality of life thing for me. I don’t regret taking it, although at some point I’ll definitely explore coming off it. The last little while I’ve been more fixated on getting my thyroid symptoms stable, so perhaps when I’m more confident I’ve achieved that!

I had low levels of estradiol and lowish of progesterone, according to him. Even though they looked in range, but he said that the range are too low and many women still suffer and are not given HRT. Also I used to have a poor sleep. And I have osteopenia. These are the reasons why I was given HRT...I am thinking to have a second opinion by some other doctor though

No reason to think it unsafe. There is an awful lot of misinformation about HRT. Progesterone will protect your uterus. Look into boron for osteopenia.

The one that is dangerous well for males it is is long term use of testosterone HRT finding Cancers!

There was a test going on while back that had to be brought short as peeps was Croaking!

Many Quacks that are good are not leaving patients on it any longer than need to be.

Funny thing though if you give T to females it revitalises there sex life!

and same way with males and E!

Did shed loads of researching when had T HRT over my P tumour/high prolactin/low T

Found out so much!

There was an older lady they gave T to she went off like a rocket! in the end she wouldn't have anymore as her husband couldn't keep up!.

In USA they gave a guy in 50's some E and like wise he was great as said he'd lost interest in likes of his sailing boat and other things but now like a puppy.

Reason being is it resets the bodies system as you age the system gets tarnished like many things that you have say like house it ages things tarnished like paint work.Doors need rehanging.window frames need redoing etc etc Till one day someone else comes along and blitzes it renovating the whole place.

So because there is a surge in T the body suddenly has to kick it's self back into action.

More should be done with/on things like this as a far more natural approach than pills n crap.

Think if could suddenly get rid of pains!

Natural Progesterone for one works on sorting out prostate issues without the side effects of pills they give you as there synthetic.

Learn't that about an elderly couple he was rubbing it in for his wife as HRT then found his prostate issues went away. but they don't like us knowing about natural methods!.

But like anything with HRT learn the signs of any impending issues like sudden legs pains esp just below knee with clots. but if keep active all reduced to very low risk plus cut smoking out.
