Hi there, hope everyone is well. My 10 year old daughter had an increase in levo to 50mcg on 4th September. She started her periods on 10th sep as normal but then has now started quite early in 28th september.
Could this be due to the dose increase. Im just slightly concerned that they have come quite early.
Thank u

thyroid issues effect everything so its a possibility. but also she is 10 so new to puberty so her periods can also just 'be out of sync'. only worry if periods last alot longer or missed periods or if its only a week between periods over multiple periods. it can be thought of as 'normal' in a doctors eye and it would have to wait if future periods(many months of reviewing) before they will treat it as a thing.
but if it is a continual issue. yes its kinda triggered by thyroid issues. but dont let the doctors just brush it away as a acceptable side effect to live with. ask to get meds reviewed either trying different brands or dosages or having a mix of thyroxine/thyronine. dont just settle that its 'the norm' for this condition if it continues over the next few periods
The girls in my family started periods on the young side (it was a couple of months prior to my 12th birthday), but 10 is very young, so it would suggest that she may have always had a pituitary issue (low vitamin D can mess things up for the pituitary gland). I'd definitely advise to get her vitamin D and iron levels (ask for a full iron panel) checked asap. and post the results here. Heavy, frequent, periods may be DUE to low iron. Increasing iron can actually make periods less frequent and heavy. Vitamin D helps regulate hormone levels.
Here is a link which says that early menstruation is linked to low vitamin D (low vitamin D can be due to diet, gut issues, lifestyle or ethnicity).
