NOT CONVERTING T4 TO T3
Lots of us on here have that problem.
What do you want help with?
We need recent blood tests with ranges to comment.
To find out if you have a problem converting you need a blood test for tsh, ft4 and Ft3 done at the same time.
If you put the results and ranges here we will comment.
"Cutting to the chase scene", consider taking some selenium (its a required nutrient for humans). A rather large cohort of Hashimoto's sufferers took 200 mcg every day of the study and experienced improved conversion of T4 to T3. Might be worth a go, since you need it anyway and probably don't get any in your diet, unless you eat Brazil nuts! Mmmm.
Enjoy!
I'm sorry your having conversion problems. I too had the same problem. I found that adding some T3 helped very much. Also vitamin "D" Zinc, Selenium is very helpful with conversions T4 to T3.
Wishing you fast resolutions and well-being.
how much did adding t3 helped you with t4?
was your t4 high and out of range? how are you doing now?
Hi Caper12,
I had TT many years ago . I was on T4 only and feeling at first very well . But shortly after I had a long list of symptoms that made it very debilitating for me to walk out of my house. My worst symptom was having palpitations . It would come on and to say the least it was very frightening for me or anyone else experiencing it too.
Though Dr's where aware of it they did not know how to deal with it. I did some home work with the help of my Heavenly Father and I learned that I was not a good converter T4 to T3 . The heart has receptor sights for T3 that my heart was just not getting enough of T3 that it needed . Lowering my T4 a bit to make room for the small dose of 5 mcg T3 made a huge difference for me and helped to calm the palpitations.
My FT4 was always on the high side and my FT3 was always on the low side . Dr's needed to suppress my TSH . And the suppressed it with T4 only. It was not good for me and many others. Adding T3 is a *Great* suppressor and a much better way to go. Patients with TT are very unique since we can experience both hypo/hyper symptoms at the same time.
Wishing you better days ahead.
