Unless it was accompanied by high FT3, it won't cause much of a problem. If T4 gets too high then the surplus is removed harmlessly by converting it to virtually inactive waste product reverse T3 which is rapidly got rid of. It's only when the high FT4 has caused high FT3 that action should be taken

Thank you so much for your reply.

My FT4 is 31 range (11-22) and my FT3 is 7.1 (3.1-6.8)Which is slightly just over range but I feel so much better and was able to loose quiet a bit of weight I posted another question if I should perhaps reduce my levo dose as I was worried I could cause damage to my body.

So do you think my FT3 is too high or should I not take any action about reducing my levo in order to be within range? I am happy to stay on this dose if it will not harm me.

Many thanks

Do you know your TSH, just to complete the answers? I think you might try a very small reduction eg if on T4 lose 25ug 1 week and add it back the next.

Hi

Yes my TSH is <0.01(0.27-4.2)

I take 200 levo and 20lio

Many thanks for your help

Sorry just to clarify when you say lose T4 25ug 1 week do you mean one day of a week and then add the 25ug on the same day I reduced following week?

Yes. It's a rather clumsy way of doing it, but unfortunately the UK does not supply 12.5ug T4 tablets as they do in Germany for dose fine tuning.

Actually - they do!

Teva 12.5 microgram tablets are available. Though, as you can see in the link below, they are around six times the price of most other dosages:

bnf.nice.org.uk/medicinal-f...

And, being only available as the Teva formulation, they have the same impact on those taking them as other Teva levothyroxine tablets. I did not like them. (I had previously been taking L-Thyroxin Henning or Uni-Pharma in the same dose for years - happily.)

Hi

That’s interesting that you can get this dose, however I used Teva before and felt awful so will just reduce the dose as Diogenes suggested and see how it goes.

Many thanks
