Saccharomyces boulardii
That’s an interesting question as I have Hashimoto’s and I’m really prone to thrush.
Is it linked?
Saccharomyces boulardii is a specialized strain of saccharomyces yeast. It’s main advantage is in binding to certain pathogens of the Clostridium family in the intestines which keeps them from adhering to the intestinal lining where they can proliferate and cause infection. The Clostridium family is quite large and includes the dangerous, but becoming more common C. difficile infections (C. diff). Clostridium spores live in the soil everywhere and are almost impossible to avoid but rarely cause infections in people with health immune systems.
Floristor is a commonly available brand world wide. There are several good products available in the US (Jarrow, Swanson, etc.) but I don’t know about in the UK.
S. boulardii is not a true “probiotic” in that it does not form colonies like bacteria based probiotics (such as those in yogurt) and must be taken continuously to provide their benefit. (Despite this, most manufacturers still label it as “CCU”.) It’s best use is to take at the first sign of diarrhea from any cause and, if improvement noted with a double dose for a few days, continue at a label listed dose after all signs of diarrhea are gone for another two to three weeks.
I have not seen any scientific evidence however it might be a useful prophylactic if exposed to Covid as many have reported GI symptoms. (This is my opinion and not supported scientifically.)
If you have horses it is amazing at helping with foal scours.

I'm prone to Candida albicans (gut) and to control flare ups use Cytoplan's S. Boullardii alongside Gaia's Oil of Oregano (not together, but sequentially throughout the day). I find Cytoplan's products are good quality, backed by nutritionists.
I have been prescribed this but I am not sure which brand to buy. Which one you got in the end?
