Thyroid and corns?

I’ve had 5 corns suddenly appear on my big toe (sorry for the pic). I wear no tight or uncomfortable shoes, no high heals, always cushy insoles in work shoes etc. Can this be in any way related to thyroid?Any response would be much appreciated x

I have never heard of corns being related to the thyroid, and in 45 years of being diagnosed/treated I have never had a corn.

Corns are usually caused by repeated rubbing or friction of the skin or pressure, also by not wearing socks.

Corns and verrucas can sometimes look very similar, could they possibly be verrucas?

Oh, I see. Never had them in my life 😣

Thanks Susie.

Those look like verruca to me. A verruca is a viral thing, rather than anything rubbing. I'd suggest having someone look a them for you.

I've had a verruca twice. Once had the palaver of having a caustic substance applied, then dressed and trimmed back, weekly. The last time (about 20 years ago now - touch wood!), the podiatrist suggested covering the verruca with a piece of zinc sticking plaster - so sticky directly onto the wart, and leaving it for a week, then removing it. Repeat. Repeat, until the wart is gone, or comes away on the plaster.

The zinc plaster starves the wart of oxygen, so it literally withers away. Genius, and in my view safer than acid on my feet.

It is important to check a verruca is what you're dealing with though.

Thank you so much for your input, I now feel slightly embarrassed of literally showcasing my big toe on a site that discusses thyroid. I guess I’m desperate and looking for anything that I can show my GP and say:”Aha! Told you so!!!” Thanks again ☺️

Hi, as the others have correctly deduced, you have verrucae. I’m a podiatrist and from your photo that is certainly what it looks like. MMaud’s advice is sound; try zinc oxide 24 hours a day. Don’t despair if they don’t regress quickly. They are indeed a virus, and they can be quite resistant to treatment. Needling is a new treatment offered by some podiatrists but I would go down the less invasive route first.

My son had several and I purchased some stuff to freeze them off. I think it was called Bazuka and cost about £12.

I had great success getting rid of my husband’s stubborn verruca by dabbing on a mixture of tea tree and lemon essential oils diluted in olive oil ... it was a tip passed on by a chiropodist ... everything else had failed

Thank you all for your support, I’m on it already. Trying to work out how I got them but I guess it being a virus, there are no rules 🙄

Thank youuuuuu 😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘
