After miscarriage

My daughter has had another silent miscarriage this time after 15 weeks. Twice this year. 😪She’s on levo 100. She’s always had a very racy heart (she’s been on levo for 6 years) sometimes over 100 but her bloods are normal. Now after losing this baby her heart rate is normal 65/70 . She’s now concerned somethings wrong! I think her body may be back to normal now. Thoughts?

So very sad for your daughter. You mention in your previous post about headaches and fast heartbeat. Has your daughter had her B12 - Folate - Ferritin and VitD tested. Often low when Hypo. Low iron can cause headaches and heart issues.

You say her thyroid bloods are normal - which means they are in range but possibly not optimal. Do you know which tests were done ?

Last November at her annual test.

Just the NHS one to check her levels. I’m sure I posted them before but don’t know how to find them!

Have read your other posts. Click onto Footello and you can view them too. It appears you have two daughters with thyroid problems so not sure which results are relevant ...

I'm sorry - terrible to lose one baby; devastating to lose more.

Can she get a full set of blood tests done - that means TSH, free T4, free T3, thyroid antibodies, ferritin, folate, vit D and B12? Post those results and the lovely people here can help you (and her) to interpret them.

Far too often, people are told their results are "normal" or "in range" - but that's not really good enough. She wants them "optimal" - and that ain't struggling along at the bottom of a range, no matter how often a GP says it's "normal". I understand that if you care trying to conceive, GPs concede that you need TSH at the lower end of the range - under 2.5 [where everyone start to feel better anyway] - and you should take an extra 25 mcg of levo a day in pregnancy - but hopefully others will confirm. Bu in any event, you need those blood results to know if that's enough.

Lots of people get private blood testing if the NHS won't do it: SlowDragon often has invaluable tips on the various tests around.

Hope she has better news soon x

She also didn’t lose them normally the heart just stopped and both were healthy days before. She had to have procedures to remove them as they didn’t come away.

She should have had FULL thyroid testing as soon as pregnancy confirmed

Guidelines recommend 25mcg increase in levothyroxine immediately get positive pregnancy test

Essential to regularly retest vitamin levels too

Was her levothyroxine increased by 25mcg as soon as pregnancy was confirmed?

Just testing TSH is completely inadequate

For full Thyroid evaluation she needs TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if she has autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) diagnosed by raised Thyroid antibodies

Absolutely essential to have optimal vitamin levels BEFORE TTC

Spinal cord is formed before you would even test positive as pregnant

Both B12 and folate are Goldilocks hormones...you need enough ...but not too much. High folate levels can be as bad as too little

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins
