Private Testing

Hi,

I am looking at my options for private testing. Is there anything I would get from Medichecks that I wouldn’t from Thriva? Better service/interpretation?

Just trying to find out whether spending the extra is worth it 🤔

Thanks!

They all tend to use the same labs to process the tests, typically County Pathology, so there will be no difference in the quality of the testing.

I've not used Thriva so can't comment on their service but I use Medichecks and have never had a problem and results are usually available within 24-48 hours depending on the test bundle and whether or not you request doctor's comments.

Members here would suggest that you don't bother with their comments, their doctors are all NHS trained and spew out the same old rubbish as a typical GP about TSH rather than looking at results of the actual thyroid hormone results (FT4 and FT3). You will get a much better interpretation of your results if you post them on the forum.

That’s really helpful, thank you!

To add to SeasideSusie's helpful reply, if you only want to test TSH, FT4 and FT3, then monitormyhealth.org.uk is good value. With the 10% discount (use code THYROIDUK10), this test costs just £26.10. The kit is actually marketed and supplied by an NHS lab, so you're not paying for the service of an added 'middleman', which is what Thriva, Medichecks etc are.

If you want to include testing folate and do so by DIY finger prick...currently only Thriva and Blue horizon offer this

Medichecks thyroid plus vitamin test no longer includes folate unless pay extra and get blood draw by phlebotomist

Medicheck’s ‘Nutrition check’ still includes a finger prick folate test, must be something to do with the rest of the tests not using too much of the sample. Currently on offer at £55, so combined with RedApples’s monitormyhealth thyroid check you get all the key markers for just over £80.
