Eye Tenderness

I was diagnosed with Graves Disease in December and started taking meds, which have worked really well..I have no symptoms at the moment which is great! But over the last month I have noticed my one eye is very tender, gets a bit blurry and feels "weak"! Anyone else had this ? Do you think I might be getting Eye ophthalmopathy. Anyone experience this after months of other symptoms appeared( weightloss, HR, tremors, fatigue etc)

Like you , Carbimazole worked well for me quickly relieving my symptoms. However it often happens that the dose needs to be titrated down to avoid become overmedicated. This happened with me. When my free T3/T4 became low in range it triggered TED.

What are your latest blood results?

I would check you are not becoming hypothyroid.

Hello again

I'm glad to read you are doing well on the AT drug, Carbimazole.

My eye issues only really happened after the RAI thyroid ablation so am not in a position to offer much help.

Did you check out the Elaine Moore Graves Disease Foundation website as I know Elaine has written on the eye issues that can be experienced in Graves patients so am sure there are sections on her website.

It could just be you need your medication adjusted but possibly you need to ask to see a specialist in Graves Ophthalmology,

TED thyroid eye disease is a real possibility. I would ask for a referral to Ophthalmology. They will check it and if it is TED you should have regular appointments to monitor and treat.

I was prescribed selenium by the ophthalmologist. It didn't agree with me but might be worth a try as many on here supplement with it.

Be aware that TED exists independently from Thyroid symptoms. Thyroid symptoms and TED are both caused by your auto immune antibodies attacking tissue but even if you no longer had a working thyroid TED could still exist.
