Hello there I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and am currently getting scans done on my upper right abdomen (just under rib cage) all scans have came back clear no gallstones anything of that sort.
I was wondering if anyone else has these symptoms?

Thanks for your reply ... if it was ibs would the symptoms and pain still occur even if I've stopped eating for a few days ? I've tried everything changing my diet staying away from dairy just don't have a clue what's going on
Yes Muchaelg193 I’ve had numerous investigations for right sided rib pain.i have raised lymph nodes in the caecum area for which I had a colonoscopy done to check that area and two biopsies done got all clear for bowel issues.i then saw a haemotoligist who suspected lymphoma and did loads of blood tests and an mri scan and again got the all clear.my crp is higher than I’d like and my ferritin is double what it should be and right now as I’m typing I have this right sided pain like a knife being inserted up into my rib cage.
It’s not present all the time and it’s not as frequent as it used to be but still there.im convinced it’s dietary but can’t track it down.docs have turned a blind eye to it now.
That's exactly how mines is going at the moment I've had 2 tests done all clear been on buscopan for "trapped wind" as they thought it was and nothing's changed
Only things I am on right now is levothyroxine and an iron supplement
It's more uncomfortable than anything else I'm already fatigued enough with the thyroid issue nevermind spending 6 hours a night rolling around trying to get comfortable haha
That’s ok as I had a theory at the time that I seemed worse on the pessaries and hrt and this coincided with my rib pain starting.
I genuinely don’t know but it’s rampant so many people have this either right sided or left,I started with left then right and now I also get from mid back right up to shoulders, horrible burning pain so I’m now working on the theory it could be my adrenals.
It wears you out, if these top consultants that I pay lots of money to ,can’t find an answer then what chance do we have eh?
I know it sounds bad but at least because I’m paying for their time I feel I can push and push till I’ve drained them of answers which I do on a regular basis lol.My next plan is see the adrenal and thyroid specialist and see if I get any joy there.
Yes. You can have biliary pain without gallstones, it’s the diseased gallbladder that causes the pain. Biliary pain is quite sharp and can be severe, also you would probably have massively elevated liver enzymes.
Get some magnesium citrate and try it. Also, when the bloating comes on crush a magnesium citrate tablet in your teeth and hold the powder under your tongue for sublingual absorption. If the bloating goes away you know it is caused by muscular spasm.
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if you have autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) diagnosed by raised Thyroid antibodies
Ask GP to test vitamin levels
You may need to get full Thyroid testing privately as NHS refuses to test TG antibodies if TPO antibodies are negative
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .
Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
Is this how you do your tests?
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies
Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random
If you can get GP to test vitamins and antibodies then cheapest option for just TSH, FT4 and FT3 £29 (via NHS private service )
My husband and I both get this rib pain. We have recently got over a nasty flu bug and we had been coughing for about 6 weeks. We thought the cause of the pain was because we had strained our chest muscles. I had a chest x-ray a few weeks ago and it showed inflammation so I was given a short course of steroids. However we both still have this pain which gets worse at night. I am thinking of going back to my GP about it but I will have a 3 week wait and by that time it will have probably gone.
