SPINA Thyr to calculate T4 T3 conversion

I discovered this computer app from Jnetti post 5 months ago healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

For those of you that like numerical evidence to back up symptoms, it is a handy little program that may support your case that you are a poor converter.

I am just posting this because I found that the program has recently been updated to Spina Thyr 4.1.1 the link to download is

spina.medizinische-kybernet...

and the manual in English can be downloaded at spina.sourceforge.net/pdf/S...

GD is the conversion efficiency and according to J Midgley's paper "... using estimated deiodinase activity as a continuous variable, we divided deiodinase activity in three distinct categories defining poor (<23 nmol/s), intermediate (23–29 nmol/s) or good (>29 nmol/s) converters."

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

When on T4 only my GD was 17nmols/s which is probably why I feel so much better taking T3.

Sounds interesting. Haven't followed your links yet, is it free?

Yes it is open software. The website is German so it is easier to use a browser like Google that gives the option to translate the webpage so that you can get the right Windows, Mac, or Linux version. The manual is in English and you need this to set up the correct units and blood test ranges.

Thanks. I just went to the site and there's actually an option at the bottom right of the page to get the English text :)

The original post last year was linked on the Canadian Thyroid site. However, I was checking to see if the version I had was the latest and was hoping that they had included something to take account of exogenous T3, so I went to the SPINA website. Google immediately identified it was German so translated, and so I missed the option for English. Unfortunately no T3 compensation, possibly because too difficult because of rate of absorbtion etc.

Have you actually tried using this as support with an actual doctor?

I had already been taking T3 for some time when I saw the original post last year. I am due to see Endo in March and intend to ask him about the GD result as my 17nmol/s was based on historic blood results prior to taking T3. Although Endos are obsessed with numbers when it comes to TSH, I expect that officially he will dismiss the app.

It will be an interesting experiment! :) You must let us know how it goes.

But remember that it only works if you are on levo only and not if you are on NDT or T3

Fortunately I had full Thyroid results including FT3 results from 2015 when my GP referred me to the latest endo because she thought I might need T3. However, I saw his registrar who read T3 as D3. After many debates with real endo I went on T3 in January 2018, I buy T3 he monitor test results. I had hoped that SPINA Thyr had progressed to include patients taking T3 as well as those taking T4, but no such luck!
