High serum cretaine is almost certainly result of being extremely hypothyroid

aafp.org/afp/1999/0501/p258...

Ferritin could be better

Look at including iron rich foods in your diet

You also need folate and B12 tested

Frequently very low when extremely hypothyroid

Hi again

Ferttine was OK according to results on last test so was B12 and folate according to test but I know what OK means by NHS bloods... I'm wanting to up my vit D but gp says it's OK.. Suppose I'll have to purchase my own spray it's appalling as I don't pay for my prescriptions and gp won't prescribe it... I'm on universal credit and pip and its a struggle 😭

What was your vitamin D result? They usually say that over 50 is OK, and even if supplements are given they are usually not nearly enough (around 800iu). And/or (as happened to me) a combination of vit D and calcium is prescribed, which is pretty useless and means you can't raise the dose of D.

Hi thanks for the reply

My vit D was 70...im thinking of getting the mouth spray as my gp says my level is OK and won't prescribe it.. I have an appointment tomorrow with another gp at my surgery to discuss my bloods. I have also heard you can have vit D injections is this true? I'm hoping this other gp will prescribe vit D for me as my normal gp is a bully.. As I type this I'm in bed no energy but cannot sleep I grab what I can but this is no way to live.. I have ME/CFS/fibro / ostio/rhumertoid arthritis colitis to these have been well affected by my TT I feel like dying because this is no way to live.. 😢😢😢😢

Please don't give up!

A couple of things you could try, that I found helped:

If the next GP doesn't start to sort things out for you, ask one of the receptionists to recommend a doctor who might listen. They don't know much medically but they do know their doctors. Don't diss other doctors, but say you are really desperate and can't seem to get the help you need. I didn't actually ask, but needed to talk to a doctor and she said the one who was on that day was "Very good". and he has turned out to be brilliant.

You could also make a bullet list of your worst symptoms and how they affect your life (as brief as possible without missing out anything important). Give it to the doctor when you see him.

I don't know if vitamin D can be injected, but maybe in liquid form would help absorption. But the official lower limit is 50 and they won't usually prescribe if it's over that. Even though the Vitamin D council apparently says the optimal range is 100-150

Hi thanks for the reply ❤️

I'm afraid I live in a very small town their are only 3 gps in our surgery and one is a locum😢 I have seen all 3 of them but only seen the one I'm seeing tomorrow once... So I'm hoping she listens to my concerns. I'm pretty sure I'm not converting the levo as it flares my colitis up I have loose bowels with cramping a thumping headache to it seems to be worse the more I go up in levo I'm almost at the end of my tether I don't want to have an argument with my GPS over not feeling well on levo I've had this out with them and getting no where they go back to NHS ranges and rules and it's wearing me out even more just trying to get them to listen to me.. I'm already having panic attacks dreading how I'll come on with this gp tomorrow 😢 everytime I've come out of my surgery with no help I just feel like throwing myself of a cliff😢😢do gps actually know how bad they are making their patients.. I had bloods done last week and the nurse asked me if I'd drank anything as she had trouble getting the blood I said yes just water as I stopped my levo meds 24h before bloods and fasted.... She then told me I should only fast if the gp asked me to!!! And not to fast again!!!! They know nothing about the thyroid how can we trust them to get better if their so ignorent about this illness... 😠😠😠😠

in reply tobirkie

We don't usually admit that we are fasting before a test, because of that kind of reaction!

Make that list I mentioned, and just give it to the doctor to read. You might also print and give him the list of hypothyroid symptoms from Thyroid UK website after ticking all that apply to you:

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_...

And maybe this one, except you don't want to give the doctor too much to read. Probably best to just stick to the symptoms and how they affect you, at least for now.

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_...

Is there anyone you can take with you? Someone who can stand up for you. I know how difficult it can be

If all else fails, write a letter to the practice manager (assume there is one?). Try to give just the facts, and maybe enclose the 2 lists.

Showing too much emotion will put them off.

Praying for you tomorrow (hope that's OK) x

Hi jnetti thanks❤️❤️ I will post bk on here how I got on... I'm also dealing with the dreaded universe credit assessment form at the moment filling that in is a nightmare and I will probably have to go to an assessment appointment in my city which is an hour and a half on a train and 20min in a taxi... Not looking forward to that traveling All day.. 😭😭😭

Early morning testing , Fasting and no levothyroxine are primarily a patient to patient tip. Majority of medics deny relevant...so best not mentioned

senior thyroid specialist endocrinologists will usually recommend no levothyroxine in 24 hours prior to blood test

NHS Guidelines on when to consider offering liothyronine (T3) is also quite clear .....test should be in morning BEFORE taking levothyroxine

sps.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploa...

Also says important to test vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin

Research showing eating may lower TSH
