Hi All,

7 weeks ago I was ok . Exercising , doing the keto diet . I’ve always struggled trying to lose weight and even with keto I could never lose anything . I only did it for under a month amd lost a couple of kilos . However I started like a switch overnight wake up feeling super depressed, severe anxiety , crying spells, diahhrea, racy heart , heart palpitations, weakness, dizziness , awful thoughts , flatness . I also have possible persistent hyperparathyroidism but different symptoms . Disconnection to all my loved ones is really awful almost numb and it’s terrible to feel so numb . I also heavy foggy head and pins and needles ... strange how it all happened. I asked my GP for me to have an thyroid iodine uptake scan and it showed it was overactive . However this happened to a lesser degree in 2018 . I honestly thought I was going crazy this time . Anyways has anyone had the same symptoms despite Normal blood work . I do have very elevated ANA levels but after 5 rheumatologists and about immunologist they said I’m ok. I found that ANA can be a marker for Graves’ disease so thinking maybe that is a clue . Sorry for the long post . So scary to feel

Like this . Taking Valium at moment every few days but it’s not really helping much .

What do you call 'normal blood work'? Do you have the actual numbers: results and ranges?

Elevated ANA can also indicate Hashi's, which does have 'hyper' phases. So, you really need antibodies tested to know for sure:

TRAB or TSI for Grave's

TPO and Tg antibodies for Hashi's

Without those being tested you really cannot know what is going on. But, you do sound more hypo than hyper to me. :)

Thank you so much for your reply. I’ll get my lab work soon and post . Wow I didn’t know ANA could indicate hashi as well. No Endo has ever told me that . My antibodies were below the range and could be because I’m dairy and gluten free paleo . Both hashi and Graves antibodies were tested but I’ll get those results and post here as well. Thank you so much for your help

TG antibodies. 15. Range ( under 30 )

TPO 34. Under 60

‘TSI was negative cant find the result here at the moment .

TSH 1.48 ( 0.40 - 4.00 )

FT4 19.2 (9-25)

FT3 5.2. ( 3.5-6.5 )

December the results were a little lower as below

TSH 1.54

FT4 was 16.8

FT3 was 4.5

My ANA is 1:640 Range anything over 1:60

It’s my uptake scan that is elevated and says diffuse increased uptake and neck to thigh ratio is 8.5 and should be under 5.

Feeling very awful . I do have possibly hyperparathyroidism and the 4DCT scan shows a possible parathyroid adenoma . I’ve already had two out in 2014.

Anyways could the uptake scan be revealing why I feel like severe anxiety and depression and crying spells . I’ve lost now about just over 5 kilos and eating anything at the moment to see if I can gain weight even though I can lose another 5 kilos but this isn’t the way and loose bowels. My stool test came back negative for any parasites. I did t realise one could actually feel this depressed and in a black hole . It’s actually quite scary and happened for no reason as in out of the blue . I am seeing doctor next week for antidepressants until they can sort me out because it’s been shocking feeling so weird . Almost like I’m in a dream and can’t connect . The other physical symptoms I have mentioned before .. thank you 🙏

So, if your TSI was negative, you do not have Grave's. That's one good thing.

On the other hand, Hashi's antibodies are less clear-cut. (Are you sure about those ranges? They look a bit weird to me. TPOab is usually upper limit 30.) Hashi's antibodies fluctuate, so they can be low in one test and high in the next. Also, 20% of Hashi's people never even have elevated antibodies, so a low result is never proof positive that you don't have it. Have you ever had an ultrasound of your thyroid?

Neither of those set of thyroid results show any sign of hyperthyroidism, although ever so slightly on the high side. But, could be coming down from a Hashi's 'hyper' swing.

But, I'm afraid I don't know enough about parathyroids or uptake scans to comment.

Thank you . Could be because it’s Australian labs . It’s so confusing . Yeah the thyroid uptake scan said graves or chronic thyroiditis. Apparently Graves can be negative in 5% of population but I’m not convinced . I can’t even handle my morning coffee as it makes it worse . My one favourite thing I look forward to and it’s making me worse . Have to give it up . My thyroid ultrasound just said “ Altered echo texture “ another one said course texture . Xxx

Hi, I have been on a course of valium twice, for ankylosing spondilitis; when the muscle in my neck distended and the pain was unbearable. I was on it for about 10/14 days each time and slowly it did help.

Valium or Diazepam is a very addictive drug, I hope you know that.

It is addictive I definitely agree with you but as they haven’t put me on anything for the depression and anxiety I don’t know what to do. I’m

Going to ask for antidepressants on Wednesday. Something to calm me down for now. I definitely need something as I am unable to function due to the crying .

What they say is "normal" might not be normal for you. Can you post the results on here for us to see what they are?
