Matabolic rate

I know we can take body temperature on waking as a measure of basic metabolic rate. But I've never found it that revealing as one ear could be different and OK and the other shows low body temp and then on subsequent tests within seconds the temperature varies upwards a lot. Then this must fluctuate throughout the day but metabolic rate must still be a core factor in being hypo. I'm trying to get out of maintaining my body weight by eating normally (actually too much) one day and eating very low calories but not starving the next day, as it's been pointed out (although I was aware it might not be ideal) that this is very bad for my metabolism.

I have now very recently changed to eating in a similar way every day and trying to eat when I am hungry but not waiting until I am very hungry, but this is proving hard to manage. I fear putting on more and more weight as per usual. I had thought not increasing my weight (which tends to happen) was also beneficial and might be the best priority. Is there any other way to measure changes in metabolic rate easily? I am probably not on enough Natural thyroid as it's been getting more expensive for me and harder to obtain and I have been taking less than a few years ago.

I wonder if my body can make the required effort to increase my metabolic rate in response and maybe I can do without the natural thyroid. I could try for a month or for as long as I can manage without worsening symptoms and get tested because even if I order natural thyroid today, I am now on nothing until it arrives. When I had no natural thyroid before for a few months and had symptoms such as being cold all the time, my tests still were not sufficent for NHS treatment. I had private ones too that confirmed the NHS ones.

It's usually the under arm temperature that's used and the left side. If done on waking and always the same way, it gives you some measure of comparison. Some people take pulse and BP also at set intervals through the day. Of course , temp changes through the day, as does TSH and T3 (and probably most hormones). 5:2 and intermittent fasting seem to work for some people but not others, but only if thyroid is working reasonably well
