Hyperacusis/Misaphonia and thyroid problems

When I first had Hashi (nearly 23 years ago) I was hyperthyroid for a couple of years then stable for a while and then became hypo. While I was hyper I also had Hyperacusis which gradually wore off with time. However last summer I was in a very stressful situation for some months, beecame hyper again and the hyperacusi (or possibly misaphonia) returned but much worse then before. I have returned to hypo and am gradually getting my therapy sorted out with a new Endo who seems to know his stuff (he is the14th I have tried over the years) but the hyper-reaction to noise and also a hyper-reaction to visual situations that could be possibly dangerous is staying. Any suggestions please?

Hi, I’m sorry you are suffering from Hyperacusis. I’m Hashi’s hypo and I have tinnitus and I also had Hyperacusis a long time ago from hammering on a wooden fence without ear protection, which I knew better to do, but was having a brain fog moment. I had mine checked out by an audiologist and ear Dr. but they weren’t really any help, thankfully the Hyperacusis went away on it’s own after about a month but my tinnitus was made louder from the hammering, which I still beat myself up about. I wear ear protection now around anything that is semi loud. It’s a horrible thing to hear every little thing magnified like you have super sonic hearing. I didn’t realize that you could get it without having had trauma to your ears. I really hope that it goes away and stays away for you soon or that you can get help with it! Best wishes.
