Feeling like I have annoyed some members

Tonight I’m feeling discouraged. Recently I reached out to members, trying to get advice because I’m having difficulty regulating my dosages. I probably didn’t express myself clearly and received two responses that is making me uncomfortable. One person mentioned that I should be happy that I have support from my Endo, and that some others on here are not that fortunate. Another response was also condescending. My feeling are hurt, I didn’t mean to come across as being ungrateful. One person replied by saying “I said…………”. We are all sufferers, some people are stronger than others, some are better communicators. Let’s all remember that we’re all victims to this horrible disease. Maybe I’m having a difficult time coping at the moment and is feeling very fragile, so I’m overacting. I hope that is the case. Sorry if I have offended anyone. I won’t post for a while, but I will keep on reading and learning from the brilliant advice from many members.

Thanks to everyone who have helped me to get to where I am. I can now engage my Endo with confidence because I have gained so much knowledge on here!!!!! Good luck to everyone on your journey.

Reading through your last thread I don't get the impression you upset anyone. Most replies were people thinking through the information you had given and asking further questions. There was a little confusion about who was talking to whom at one point, but I don't think anyone was being condescending. Not intentionally, anyway. I can't help feeling you are over-reacting a little, yes. :)

On this forum, we tend to be more practical in our approach than on many others. And we ask a lot of questions because every little detail counts. That may come across as unsympathetic at times, but it isn't really. The main aim is to find out exactly what is wrong, and is never a criticism of the OP. I'm absolutely sure that no-one intended to hurt your feelings, because you're right, we are all in this together. Which is why we know that a practical approach is more helpful than a touchy-feely 'oh-poor-you' one. We just want to get to the bottom of it all.

So, please don't take offense about anything that was said on your last thread. I'm pretty sure it was all totally innocent. And, don't let it put you off asking further questions if you need to. That is, after all, why we're here. :) Merry Christmas! xxx

I am a bit blunt in my real life but having suffered for years with Graves' I hope I am sympathetic to fellow sufferers.

Here is a virtual hug for everyone who is feeling down (((((hugs)))))

Well, now, there's a fine example of how the written word can be misinterpreted. I have no idea how to take that comment.

I cannot see who upset you ... who is it?

I think we can all be sensitive to replies, some are more blunt that others and how things are read can be worlds away from how they were typed and without face to face emotions and micro expressions ect ect then the written word can be taken completely different.

And it’s the nature of the beast! Having a thyroid condition really messes with our emotions which makes us vulnerable.

Hi Rosebud1955,

Its easy to lose perspective after interactions when we are physically and mentally under stress. Which you are, and we all are on here( in varying degrees) with this wretched illness. Also I dont know about your home situation but some of us have no one we can bounce ruminating thoughts off or receive a caring cuddle from. Also written language is notoriously bad for conveying warmth and humour and easy to misinterpret. I have noticed that I can read a text message and interpret it different ways depending on my mood. Not that I’m moody but life is challenging without any of stresses Ive just mentioned. Some times people trigger long passed hurts unwittingly. My trigger is neglect, and I know it, but I flip into that thinking mode occasionally and turn into a crab pushing people away. I also felt terribly low when insufficiently treated which you may be? You have not been listened to by your Endo who you rely on and that is hard! I didnt comment on your post because it is long and I dont know enough to help yet. But I do now about emotional pain which Is why I’m responding know. This site is the most caring site. We are all in this together. I care about you and I’m sure lots of others too. I hope you feel better really soon x

That is a miserable feeling and I doubt there are few people here who, if the truth be told, haven't felt like you do on really down days....I certainly have, but it was just me not other members!

It's good that you raised the point so that members can now offer reassurance.

This debilitating condition has the ability to wreck lives if it isn't controlled and it affects us both physically and mentally, we have to hold firm to the view that we can recover....it will probably take some time but things can improve.

I have found members on this forum to be hugely generous with their time and experience and without that I would not be writing to you now!

In order to offer help, members need to know as much as possible about a person's health/situation because there are so many interconnecting strands to thyroid function and they first need to be unpicked.

The trillions of cells in the body need an adequate and constant supply of T3 before they can enable the body to function effectively....sometimes we ask what may appear to be blunt questions in order to quickly source the details we need to help achieve that.

Here, we are all in this sorry mess together and I know that thought has dragged me out of bad days because I realise I'm not the only one "wading through treacle". Without TUK members, many of whom are also fighting their own thyroid demons as they respond, I wouldn't have known where to turn.... my GP was clueless as was the endo I saw briefly.

Please keep posting, even if it's just to vent, the more you ask the more you learn....and as I'm sure you already know, knowledge is power.

Take good care...

DD

So sorry you felt like this

Having looked at the last post ....I think the confusion was classic case of another member (in this case Bronough1980) jumping in and hijacking your post.

We try repeatedly to stop other members doing this....frequently replies to the hijacker are misinterpreted by the original poster

Hi,

I’m suffering a bit of mental exhaustion so I’m unable to post at this time. Will post when I’m feeling better. I’m in a bad hypo state and is just managing to take care of my personal needs, no desire to do anything else. Hope to dig myself out of this depression soon.

Thanks and Happy Holidays!!!
