Newly published interview with the lovely NHS GP Dr David Unwin. They discuss how and why he started treating his patients with low carb, plus some of the other health benefits he has discovered along the way over the past 7 years.

I appreciate it’s not directly thyroid related, but either fatty liver, raised GGT, hypertension, diabetes or weight loss are discussed on here just about every day, so I thought it would be interesting for others.

Also available as a downloadable podcast if you prefer to listen on the go.

I personally can now see carb food is a big reason for the West’s health declines. I love carbs but now look for a better diet balance.

So eating more meaty foods plus fats such as cheese and reducing the side potatoes or rice or pasta. I still eat carbs just less of them.

Luckily I wasn’t affected negatively by carbs

Not so lovely when discussing thyroid/hormone health: "quackery" & "snake oil" came up in the conversations when I asked for help. Pity he didn't apply the same principles to other areas of health when most of us are landed with diabetes endocrinologists. >:(

Just watched the video and a great watch.

I follow Ivor Cummins on utube who has also come to the same conclusion about carbs and how it damages the heart and causes heart attack / strokes.

He has a recent one on one interview with Malcolm mckendrick of cholesterol fame. It’s over an hour long but really worth watching.

So many more people are waking up to this carb issue. I saw a bbc medical program this year showing how different patient groups could wean themselves off insulin drugs just with diet. It was with the two twin brother docs who do a lot of health shows on the bbc.

Once I'd stopped laughing at your terribly sweet username(!) I was going to ask if you'd seen any of Ivor Cummins's presentations - but you beat me to it! Yes he's brilliant, is great at explaining technical issues in an easy to understand way, and the same for Dr Malcolm Kendrick. Plus of course Dr Kendrick is on our side with thyroid treatment.

No-one should take statins without first reading Dr Kendrick's book Statin Nation, or at least read his ongoing blog on cardiovascular disease. Link below to his website for those who would like it. Yes the interview with the two of them together is perfection, I posted the link for that on here recently too.

I promise I'm not stalking you, but when I saw your comment above "Luckily I wasn't negatively affected by carbs" I had a look at your other posts on here. I don't know if it's still an issue for you but joint issues can often improve with low carb/keto, thought to be because ketones have been found to be generally anti inflammatory. You mentioned atheroma too, and of course that's where Ivor Cummins work comes in.

Part of the problem is from a cardiovascular point of view we obviously can't see what effect diet is having until the damage has gone a long way. But we can gauge we are doing some things right by having low triglycerides with high HDL, both good CV markers, along with the various lipid ratio markers Ivor Cummins regularly quotes, plus low fasting blood glucose and HbAic levels.

I'm seriously not trying to convert the whole world to a low carb lifestyle - but I would like everyone to at least be aware of the possible health benefits, and understand the drawbacks of eating high carb which has become the norm in the western world. Knowledge is power, and I certainly wish I'd known 40+ years ago what I know now.

(Having been diagnosed with ventricular ectopic beats myself this year I am also a fan of Dr Gupta and his videos on YouTube, I see you've had a very positive experience with him which is great to hear.)

Sorry if this all seems rather disjointed and rambling, obviously woke up too early today!
