Total T4 Free T4

Me again! I can’t believe I’ve not noticed this before (actually, I can lol). My blood test results show Total T4 and Free T4. When considering future T3 dosing I need to consider reducing levo depending on where T4 is within the reference range. Am I looking at Free T4, or the other one?? Thanks guys!!

Free T4.

Total T4 isn't particularly useful, it measures the total amount of thyroxine bound to proteins and unbound (free). It's the Free T4 that tells us what we need to know.

You also need free T3.
