Coming to terms with hypothyroidism

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism two years ago and my life since then has fallen apart. It cost me my marriage and home. I have had brief times of feeling ok, but mostly I just worry about my levels being ok and fed up that things I did before diagnosis, are now either impossible or exhaust me. I have read that more autoimmune conditions are likely to follow and I just can’t bare living like this.

I am sorry that you have had such a difficult time . Provide the details of your medicine and your blood test results with ranges for TSH,FT4,FT3, folate,ferritin,B12 and D3 perhaps in a new post for advice.

you don’t have to collect other autoimmune diseases!

As with everything in life there are choices, and eating a clean diet without dairy, gluten, soy and eating lots of organic vegetables and doing things you enjoy will keep you well. Find an exercise you enjoy like tai chi or yoga. Meditation,

The truest thing anyone ever said to me about thyroid disease - “it’s not about the thyroid”

Sounds to me like you're under-medicated. Can you share some lab results with us, so that we can better understand?

I have Hashi's - probably had it most of my life, and I'm now 74. But, I haven't developed any other autoimmune disease. It's not a given, just a slight possibility. :)

Please don’t despair- we are here to support and advise. I feel SO much better since I’ve followed forum members advice on increasing my medication, cutting out gluten and optimising vitamins. Have you had any vitamins tested? If not, please do so ASAP and post your results with ranges.

I do empathize. I was diagnosed a year ago and I remember that during my initial reading about Hashi's I became a bit obsessed with what other autoimmune diseases I may have to look forward to (although now I just have blanket overall health anxiety which isn't any more fun). I also don't recognize much of my life right now. My family and I used to be very social, always going out on weekends, and now I always want to stay in and dread having to go anywhere because even the prep seems exhausting to me. I work, come home and want to go straight to bed. We need to hang in there! I do think that there are many great people on this site that are helping me navigate where to go from here. I have finally requested (waiting to hear back) that my endo start testing more of my vitamin levels and I plan to discuss adding T3 at our next appointment.

It can take time to get on top of things especially if not much support from elsewhere but all good advice given about so keep asking on things you don’t understand, I’m sure someone will be here to help you. Most important things at the moment are any results you have but don’t forget the ranges. Ranges differ from lab to lab so without seeing yours we should just be guessing.
