so over the span of a year or more i have slowly increased by 4th grain or ndt naturethroid every 6-8 weeks based on symptoms and bloods.. i reached 3.5 grains and stayed there for 2.5 months feeling great! good pulse and blood pressure. i thought ide finally reached my dose until now past 2 weeks i feel extremely hyper. ive lowered my dose down to 3 grains and now 2.5 grains and my pulse stays in 90s or 100s! this whole year went pretty smooth and im so confused. is it possible i just overdosed had a delayed reaction maby to t4 buildup and just need time to clear the excess?! i thiught lowering dose would relieve it which ive done in past
ndt confused: so over the span of a year or more... - Thyroid UK
ndt confused
Do you have Hashi's?
i tested negative twice no antibodies. but from what i read that doesnt mean anything.. so if i do have hashis how do people deal with flareups?! do they just decrease meds till it goes away. ive been so miserable and on edge. afraid to do anything or my pulse goes roof.. i know ndt has alot of t4 which takes time to clear so im hoping its that
They deal with them the same way as anybody else, by reducing, or stopping their thyroid hormone until they start to feel hypo again.
Yes, you're right, you can still have Hashi's even if you never have high antibodies. And, it sounds like you do.
thank you just an update ive been on 2.0 grains about 4-5 days now and my pulse is finally coming down. that was extremely scary. just gonna go by symptoms and maby only increase to 3 grains this time. i was on that dose for a while and no problems
The way I've dealt with this issue myself is to stop treatment altogether until I start to feel a tiny, tiny bit hypo. It only takes a few days usually. When I start to feel hypo again I re-start my treatment at a lower dose. If the "hyper" problems come back then I repeat the procedure until I find a dose that works.
When the apparent "hyper" phase ends and I start to feel hypo all the time I start raising my dose again.
Edit :
I just had a thought... Sometimes people can get mixed up between hypo and hyper symptoms. There is a surprising amount of overlap and it can take a long time for an individual to learn to identify what their symptoms are telling them. If giving up Levo quickly makes people feel worse i.e. their apparent "hyper" symptoms get worse, then they should go probably back to taking Levo as soon as possible. They may have been under-medicated rather than over-medicated. This is why getting blood tests done is so important before making changes to any hormones taken.
wow as soon as i think im normal again it hits me like a freight truck. but i gotta stay strong. thats great advice.. ive never dealt with hyper like that for that long... that was horrible. at least now i know for future. thanks
and how often should i expect a hashi flair up like this.. was hoping once i find a correct dose i could live my life in peace lol
There are absolutely no rules that I know of about Hashi flares. They could last a couple of days, a couple of weeks, a couple of months. One could stop and it might be days, weeks, months or years before the next one.
The only things I can suggest are that you try and maximise your health in every other respect. Whether it might delay or shorten any Hashi flares you might have, I don't know. But it might be worth a try, and couldn't make things worse as far as I know.
For info on Hashimoto's Thyroiditis read the website of Izabella Wentz. She calls herself The Thyroid Pharmacist. She has written a book or two, and has a Facebook page as well as her website. See this link :

If it’s working for you, that’s great news!
