Time to feel benefits/consequence of dose change

Could someone please advise me on how long it normally takes to get symptoms following a Levo dose reduction and can you feel some benefit from an increase the same day?

It's highly unlikely you would feel the benefits of an increase in levo the first day. For one thing, it has to be converted into T3 before it can do anything. You might feel a bit better after about a week, but it will take about six weeks to feel the full benefit.

The other way round - decreasing - you might possibly feel worse faster. Or, you might not. :)

Thank you though I was hoping for a different answer. My GP reduced my Levo about 2 weeks ago and for the past few days I have been feeling on the edge of tears all the time. I haven’t wanted to talk to anyone either preferring to be alone. Last night my so told me I looked sad so I took my old dose this morning. I still don’t feel good but I did think I felt a little better 😐

I'm afraid there are no quick fixes with hormones. They take their time. But, you should be feeling better in about a week on your old dose.

By how much was it reduced, and why?

It was reduced to 150 from 175. My TSH is too low and my T4s too high (0.05 0.3-4.2 and 27.2 12-22) I made the mistake of forgetting to not take my levo on the day of the test and had my breakfast too (I’m so forgetful) but as it’s such a rigmarole getting time off work I went for the test anyway. Unfortunately they also sent me to a different surgery who didn’t test my T3s which are usually quite low. I’ve got an appointment with my GP on Friday to discuss.

Oh dear. Most doctors just do not understand that taking your levo before the test will skew your results. Most of them are so dim, they can't work it out for themselves.

But, there's no such thing as a too low TSH. It is what it is, and trying to manipulate your levo to get your TSH in range is just going to make you ill. They don't understand that, either. :'(

Let’s see if I can get her to understand on Friday as I’m feeling low at the moment.
