Is your thyroid optimally treated ? How is your B12 level?
My numbers are good currently, I am on a low dose of Carbimazole (5mg on alternate days). though this is after unsuccessful radio iodine in 2015, steroids in 2016 and years of TED trouble which is now thankfully stable. Not sure about my B12 tbh.
Have you checked the Patient Information leaflets to see if they can cause/worsen tinnitus?
Are you sure you've posted on the correct forum, this is a thyroid forum and we can help with thyroid related matters but you have no information in your profile.
Sorry. Yes I can see why it might seem like the wrong place. A bunch of conditions coincided with Graves and its treatments (radio iodine and steroids for TED) and tinnitus is one of them.
Hi. Some calcium channel blockers or drugs for hypertension may be ototoxic affecting your hearing and giving ringing ears and tinnitus and there could be further side effects or interactions with statins. If I were you I would ask your pharmacist who will be able to help you with your enquiry. If the calcium channel blockers are to make your artery walls less stiff and to prevent atherosclerosis then may be your diet might be altered so you cut out foods and drinks which raise blood pressure and cholesterol. I had high blood pressure and was advised to try statins but am diabetic and drug sensitive so did not take them. My husband had muscular pain and felt funny. If you think you could track your diet to see if you are eating too much cheese and dairy, then may be cutting this down would help the cholesterol and hypertension. I went on a grain free diet and cut down on fatty cheeses, and on cream cheese and cottage cheese as I am lactase intolerant. I use lactase free milk, but was eating over two pounds of cheese a week. Cheese and dairy are high in calcium and this will show from test results with hypercalcaemia. My dentist told e the plaque on my teeth was due to a diet too high in calcium which is in the saliva. After removing so much fat from cheese and dairy, by cutting it down to one ounce of cheese a day and drinking lactase free milk, it did help reduce blood pressure and cholesterol. Interesting information can be found from Dr Mercola at mercola.com about the delicate balance of vitamin K and d which with calcium balance how much calcium goes to the bone and does not start t0 block the arteries. Hope you find out how and why you have tinnitus but if the drugs are ototoxic then a change in drugs might help, and further life style changes too.
