I am a 69 year old female,diagnosed hypo/hashi's in 1998.
I had my first episode of gout a few months ago.Just had my second.Been left with 2 trophi so far.On googling gout & trophi I am worrying about the impact on my joints.I was prescribed very strong NSAIs which I did not take. The first episode kept me off my feet for 3 weeks, the second, last week, for a few hours.
I am drinking concentrated tart cherry juice from Healthspan(now discontinued) & will move on to capsules when I run out.I do not drink alcohol,I rarely eat meat.
I am overweight thanks to SSRIs(weaned off completely nearly a year ago, after 18 months)have given up sugar & all fructose(eg honey)
I do not want to take gout medication.
None of my googling produced a link between hypo & gout. However, tapping gout into this forum's search box did!-Its a pubmed report.
Looking forward to all feedback & personal experiences of living with kidneys not excreting uric acid very efficiently.
Has anyone found acupuncture or reflexology helpful?

Conclusions: Our findings confirm the data in the literature concerning the high prevalence of hyperuricemia and gout in hypothyroidism. It shows that hyperthyroidism can cause a significant increase in serum uric acid, as well, although lower than the hyperuricemia due to thyroid hormone deficiency.
That suggests gout could occur not just with hypothyroidism, but also hyperthyroidism. Could you be over medicated on thyroid hormone perhaps?
If you want to google some more, try putting the two words gout + thyroid in the search box.
Hmm,interesting. That article does seem to point to hypothyroidism being more associated with gout, though doesn't it?I still have symptoms of hypo on 2 grains, though my TSH & FT3 don't indicate this.
I have started adding T3 to my NDT,but will bear in mind what you query & get some more blood tests soon.My last fully comp one from medichcecks & an NHS one were in November on 2grains....
