We should not supplement with iodine unless tested and found to be deficient, and only then under the guidance of an experienced practioner.
Iodine used to be used to treat hypERthyroidism. It is not recommended for hypOthyroid patients, especially when Hashi's is present as it can make things worse.
From my research - Hashimoto patients have polyps on thyroid often and iodine supplemented would store in those polyps and make them grow and eventually become cancerous.
