I eat healthy and wondered if there were any tips on how to lose those e tea k’s ....

First of all, you need to be optimally medicated which generally means for a treated hypo patient TSH 1 or below and FT4/FT3 in the upper part of their reference ranges.

You posted these results yesterday and told us you had started 25mcg Wockhardt Levo

TSH:13.53 mU/L (0.35-5.5)

FT4: 10.0 pool/L (10.0-19.8)

You have a very long way to go. Retest in 6 weeks, increase in dose of Levo, retesting/increasing every 6 weeks until your levels are where you need them to feel well. Low T3 makes weight loss difficult so you will need to keep your eye on that, if your GP can't get it tested (very likely) then do a thyroid panel with one of our recommended labs to include TSH, FT4 and FT3.

Also, as advised in reply to yesterday's post and previously, it's important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 as these nutrient levels need to be optimal for thyroid hormone to work properly.

Thank you that’s really helpful ... I have gone over a year without knowing what was wrong... I should get my B12 etc results tomorrow.. i asked for them to be done..

have only taken 3 Levo tablets atm but will get another blood test in 6 weeks. Just hoping they work ok ... 😊

Majority of patients need somewhere between 100mcg and 200mcg levothyroxine

Dose has to be increased slowly, blood retested 6-8 weeks after each increase

Always stick to same brand of levothyroxine

Starting on low dose may make you feel worse before you start to feel better once dose slowly increases

It usually takes 6 weeks before benefit of each dose is felt

There’s no point trying to diet at this stage

Most important to read as much as possible while on low dose and don’t over do it

Average dose is 1.6mcg per kilo

67kg = 107mcg daily

Ok ... I never knew that ..

I have a friend who weighs more than me and she says she’s still on 25mcg ...

I find it all confusing and have been so ill ... I do hope it will get better soon... hope your doing ok too Hun 😊

Then your friend is also likely very under medicated too

Current guidelines and treatment for hypothyroidism in Uk are extremely poor

NICE guidelines

cks.nice.org.uk/hypothyroid...

The initial recommended dose is:

For most people: 50–100 micrograms once daily, preferably taken at least 30 minutes before breakfast, caffeine-containing liquids (such as coffee or tea), or other drugs.

This should be adjusted in increments of 25–50 micrograms every 3–4 weeks according to response. The usual maintenance dose is 100–200 micrograms once daily.
