I was wondering if anyone has noticed that alcohol does not seem to have the effect that it did. I’m not a heavy drinker...once or twice a week ...a couple or 3 glasses...but it’s like I have drunk a cup of tea since my thyroid problem kicked in. Is it just me?

The effect of alcohol
🥂🤷♀️ no idea. I like a glass or two of wine. I don’t really like feeling drunk. I jut naturally seem to be repelled by the 3rd or 4th (depends on the size of the glass! Lol) I love a drink with my meal but I can’t say anything has changed since having a thyroid condition.
Yeah I do too..over Xmas I couldnt drink a drop... it was like my body telling me it was bad for me...my sister had the same experience before her liver started to fail (auto immune)...I think there is some link...
I am glad you said that about being repelled by one more drink than you can take. I have said that to many people but have never got even an acknowledgment. I think we are on the opposite end of the spectrum of being alcoholics, i.e. we will never be one. Now, people often say that they "shouldn't" have another one and don't, that's different. I, and evidently you, absolutely can NOT drink another one. And yes, I love my one or two glasses of wine with my dinner.
I don’t have that kind of problem. In fact, I can’t really handle wine any more. I get buzzed from the label lol. I actually gave it up but I can still tolerate beer thank goodness lol. I’m not a big drinker though. Maybe a couple of beer a week.
Hmm, I still feel the effects of a couple of beers. Hic!
I've given up drinking since being diagnosed. I was finding that I would feel terribly ill after one glass. The weird thing is that it would take a few hours for the bad feelings to kick in so didn't link the too. I would feel hot, heart palpitations, really fatigued and itchy eyes. I would then spend the next day feeling like I was dealing with a severe hangover....on one small glass of wine.
I did too, still have no idea why but accidentally noted a single magnesium tablet took the edge of it. One day I'll figure it out hopefully.
I can’t tolerate any alcohol now. Wine was the first to go - felt hungover straight after half a glass. Gin was ok for a while but now I can’t manage anything alcoholic. Ah well, there are far worse things to contend with I suppose.
I’m the same as you, little or no effect. Although I should do a video of myself in case I am actually really pi..ed. but not aware....🥴
When I was undiagnosed and unmedicated, I stopped any alcohol (important to add I was never a drinker) as even 1 or 2 glasses (unit measured) made me feel very drunk. I also felt that I still felt drunk the following day, quite unlike a hangover. I can now occasionally tolerate 1 or 2 glasses with no ill-effects. Never really got to the bottom of it. I assumed it was either slow metabolism causing the liver to respond sluggishly to the alcohol or perhaps an intolerance related to the alcohol sugars.
What I mean by intolerance is that my body could not supply sufficient insulin to deal with the sugar or that the receptors were blocked. I know as a hypothyroid individual, I'm at a higher risk of diabetes. Despite feeling unwell when taking sugar, I've had at least 3 blood tests for sugar including HbA1c but all come back negative.
Unhole, reduced tolerance to alcohol is a common hypo symptom. Things like several people have mentioned, feeling sick straight away or soon after.
I've definitely suffered reduced tolerance. But actually reading your description and others in the thread I can relate to a lot. I'm not sure it's as simple as just feeling unpleasant after drinking. I think there are times I've drunk a bit and not really felt anything, but other times I take one or two sips and feel hungover or exhausted straight away.
At the moment I'm a little too scared to try it and really get to the bottom of it. For me I'm often exhausted after I go out or socialise, and alcohol just magnifies the effects. Over the 6 years I've been ill I've had 3 or 4 bad experiences, things like contracting a nasty illness that impacts me for months.
Mmh...strange...mostly posts say after effects are very bad and just two saying little immediate affect (not feeling tipsy at the time)....but all effects stated here are extreme compared to the average bod 🤔 thank you all for your replies. Cheers!
