Dr Smith has set out her credentials as lead researcher and writer for the Canadian Thyroid Patients Campaign. For those interested :
I serve as an associate professor of communication at the University of Calgary. I research thyroid mainly as a patient-advocate and secondarily as a scholar of rhetoric who analyzes the argumentation (logic, reasoning) and the ethics of thyroid science and policy (thyroid therapy guidelines). I am not a biological scientist or health professional. My research in thyroid is as an avid reader of thyroid scientific literature published in journals and medical textbooks.
She certainly shows logic and reasoning to the best extent.

Over recent times there's been a dreadfully retrograde step to, apparently, 'cattle' hypothyroid patients, in that their individual health is relegated to the bottom of their [medics] tip.
There are a few 'at the top of' [a somewhat sick game] who seem determined to take away any and all of the much needed, viable, options... to superimpose their arrogant, ignorant misogyny as a 21st C model of endocrinology.
The attitude of endocrinologists baffles me so much I spent £170 +travel and hotel bills and three days of my time to try to understand their attitude at the BTA conference last year. Can't say I understood much better for my efforts. I saw: closed minds; an almost religious attitude to levothyroxine intolerance ("I'm agnostic on the use of liothyronine") and unwillingness to discuss or even acknowledge cases where levothyroxine does not work in the UK attendees ("wrong dose", "perhaps fillers"). Explanation of intolerance put down to a 'complaining culture' in the UK (ie whingeing women). None of the leaders suffered from the disease (no gluten free options at lunch!) - which might help on the empathy front. We can only keep up the battle folks - you're all on the right side. At least they invited some patients this year.
