Hi

I’m slightly concerned about my periods . On the 10th til the 15th of April . Another one on the 29th April which is still ongoing ?

Surely this isn’t normal ?

I’m 49 ?

Thanks

See your GP, I had a non stop period... Years ago now mind... And GP gave me something to take to stop the bleeding and everything settled back to normal after that.

Thank you .

Did they give you an explication as to why you were having them ?

Oh dear I'm afraid this was many years ago and exactly what the lovely locum said I can't remember, she did a blood test, gave me this pill and said if still bleeding in 5 days come back and see her. my incompetent usual GP just said 'oh it happens your probably menopausal' grrrrrrr. So made app with female GP. was in early thirties and 62 now 😮 Blood tests showed no issues and never happened again. Sorry can't be ofmore help love.

Awe these GP are as much use as chocolate fireguards . Most can’t be bothered 😕 . I’m thinking my iron levels must be really low now , I’m vegetarian too which doesn’t help . X

Looking at previous posts, your endo was trying to reduce your substantial dose of T3

Have you had thyroid and vitamin levels tested recently?

TSH, FT3, FT4, vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Do you have Hashimoto's?

Dose reductions can mess with vitamin levels

Frequent periods may lower ferritin levels

Hi

My Endo has checked vitamin D levels that is all

My TSH is deficient he states that on my blood forms

No other tests have been done .

I don’t have Hashimoto , underactive thyroid is my diagnosis.

So you need full Thyroid and vitamin testing

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

Last Levothyroxine dose should be 24 hours prior to test, (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).

If/when also on T3, make sure to take last dose 8-12 hours prior to test, even if this means adjusting time or splitting of dose day before test

Is this how you do your tests?

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or all vitamins

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random

Medichecks currently have an offer on until end of May - 20% off

Being vegetarian it's likely your ferritin is too low

Eating spinach, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily vitamin C can help improve iron absorption

Look up other iron rich foods

FERRITIN and hypothyroidism

Thank you for been so helpful .

Next Friday I’m scheduled to have some bloods taken so I will ask one of the receptionist to mention it to the doctor . Failing that I’ll order from your recommended links x

I was perimenopausal at your age, or was I menopausal - who knows, it goes on for years, and periods do funny things during this time. Maybe see your GP, I understand they do tests now and can tell you if you're menopausal (none done 20-odd years ago when I was going through it).

Don't speak too soon, my lungs went to pot aged 65, second lung disease aged 68, heart problems started aged 69......... I honestly thought I was going to enjoy my retirement and do all those things I'd not got around to doing before!

That’s awful .

So sorry to hear about your health

Good morning. I had a similar issue years ago and was also given tablets to stop the bleeding. Unfortunately when I stopped the tablets it started again. They thought it was hormonal and I had the mirena coil put in but it didn’t stop so after 10 weeks I had an ablation of the womb where they burn the surface and that worked. I had three children and didn’t want any more. So it’s only suitable if you don’t want any/any more.

Hope you get sorted.

Good morning to you 😊

Thanks for your reply annegal

Their is no way on earth I’m having a coil fitted.😳

Hoping that this problem rights itself soon .

X
