Any ideas....frog in throat

Hi all. I haven't got recent bloods to post but before I go trekking to the doc, any ideas re why the sensation of a frog in my throat. I don't really know if it's thyroid or not but just wondering if anyone had a similar issue if under or over medicated. Thx all.

This could be your thyroid... or lots of things ( my medical knowledge is very limited!!) but it could also be stress/anxiety so I would get an all round check if I was you. It is horrible so don’t put up with it 😘

Hi

It’s ages ago but I had a similar thing before my vitamin thyroid and adrenals together with my diet were all fixed. Many friends had similar experiences too.

I never fixed my dry mouth though.

Good luck

I experience a period of this recently...although mine wasn’t a constant “frog in throat” it felt more like a spasm inside my throat directly behind my thyroid. I had my levels checked and they were slightly elevated. I put it down to stress as I’ve had a goitre for 12 years and it’s never bothered me before and the fact that the sensation would come and go was reassuring because if there was a growth or something I imagine it would be constant. The sensation vanished after about three weeks once my stress levels were under control and have had my level checked since also and they’ve returned to (my) normal.

Morning, it may be as simple as post nasal drip- you could try a nasal allergy spray (check with pharmacist) - works within a few days but you’d need to carry on. Worth considering.

I used to have a very good singing voice but at the moment it breaks on certain notes and it has gone lower than usual. But my thyroid meds are pretty good in other respects. I know that my voice varies according to dosage.

Join the club! Occasionally I find I can sing but my voice comes and goes and can't reach the high notes at all or even medium high

With me it is a symptom of thyroid trouble. It was terrible before I started medication for Hashimoto's; not so bad now but I'm still having to clear my throat a lot.

I'm exactly the same. Had my thyroid removed 4 years ago and levels are right had camera down and ultrasound and told everything looks fine but it may be allergies or globus so told to keep up with steroid nasal spray. I also struggle with voice problems and very dry mouth. Hope you find a solution I find that when I get it I get more anxious which makes it worse.

I feel for you, it is a worry but try not to stress about it. Mine started last December and I believe is started from neck strain. At the time I was panicking a bit and it was so bad it felt like I was being strangled. I mentioned it in the January to my totally useless endo and she ignored it. I googled it and found a thing called cricopharageal muscle spasm which is very common. I suffer with extreme anxiety which I put down to the Hashimotos and I found it coincides with very tight diaphragm muscles which I think is down to stress and a T5 compression fracture from severe osteoporosis. If I take the occasional lorazepam or similar, then the throat thing seems to disappear which makes me think it must be stress or muscular.
