With these symptoms you'd think it was hypo not hyper but it isn't . Still waiting for consultant to give me copy of bloods. Meant to be having a major op in a couple of weeks and endocrinologist doesn't want to see me again until afterwards. Doesn't appear interested in anything and has never actually physically examined me. Do these symptoms sound any way best normdl ?

You need to post your blood test results including the one from two months ago.

You could be a complex case which the endo doesn't understand. Since you are to have an operation I would put your foot down and insist on have a copy of all the blood test results early next week. If they are NHS contact the hospital PALS team for help, if they are private bend their ear.

The above link takes you to your Post and Replies of two months ago. Surely if you were diagnosed 4 years ago you must have some results with ranges you can share. As suggested by greygoose you need to know which anti-bodies were tested as it could be Hashimotos - a condition that can swing from HYPER to HYPO. We have seen it before on this Forum ...

Have you seen the play 'Waiting for Godot'? I think Samuel Beckett had some experience with specialists and waiting for his endo to send him his results. And, just like Godot, I don't think your results are going to arrive. Not unless you do something about it. You've got to be proactive. Keep ringing until you get them. You know very well that your endo doesn't give a tuppenny hoot about you and your results, you're just another damned patient keeping him away from his golf, or whatever. Make his life hell until he gives you your results just to get rid of you.

Are you in the UK? There's no information on your profile. In the UK it's your legal right to have a print-out of your results - that means results AND ranges. So, try reminding them that they're breaking the law by not giving you your results, and that there are legal measures you can take to make sure you get them. I'm sure nobody wants that unpleasantness, do they. And, it's just about impossible for anyone on here to advise you without seeing those results.

What amazes me is that you are going to have a medical proceedure (for whatever reason) without the surgeon seeing your thyroid results. They're usually pretty hot on TSH levels. Has s/he perhaps had the results from your endo? Or did they do their own bloods?

I had a lot of skin issues before I took NDT. They reappear if I take too low a dose, despite increasing T3 to what should be my happy level. I seem ok for a short while on T3 only if there's hot weather. NDT also helps my body temperature more than T3 so the other magic natural hormones must be involved with normalising my skin & core temperature.

Hi pippin, does the surgery you are going for, have the doctors there taken your thyroid condition into consideration? I think that's going be important for your surgery.

Thank you all for your comments. The thyroid consultant has written to the other one saying I'm stable enough for surgery and that's about it. My other consultant is far more empathetic . I need to get tougher x

Hi Pippin,

I had the identical symptoms as you - I was confirmed Graves’ disease and had a toxic multinodular goiter. I was always freezing - I wore layers upon layers to stay warm - and had to wear cotton gloves to bed with ointment to keep the skin from falling apart on my hands just before I had my TT surgery 9 weeks ago. My hair was thinning at the top as well and falling out. I also had heart palpitations and the other typical symptoms of a Graves patient.

I am not in a position to say what you have - but it is possible to have these symptoms and have a complex case.

It sounds just the same. Thank you for that ! It's awful isn't it? The muscles at the top of one of my arms is really sore too and I'm always exhausted. I presuming you were diagnosed by scans etc,

It was very uncomfortable. I was diagnosed by scans etc, and my pathology report post surgery confirmed Graves. I also had a sore shoulder and neck pain that went away after surgery. My goiter was very large and was pressing on a nerve.

Yes !!! I also seem to be getting a stiff neck and sore shoulder . I never thought for as second it was the thyroid problem.

Me neither - I already had spine issues and just assumed it was from that. Imagine my surprise when the pain disappeared! I can’t say for sure that it’s your case but it happened to me.

Good luck for your op! I was diagnosed hypo but the staff at A&E were convinced I was hyper because of my symptoms, so It's definitely possible to experience the opposite!

But as others have suggested antibodies should be tested to rule out hashimoros as this can give you confusing symptoms, it would also mean your treatment would be different!
