Methylation issue?

Hi

Can anyone explain what a methylation issue is? It's been raised in a thyroid report I've just received.

Thank you

Here's a fairly straightforward article to give you the basics on methylation.

"Methylation is a simple biochemical process – it is the transfer of four atoms - one carbon atom and three hydrogen atoms (CH3) – from one substance to another.

When optimal methylation occurs, it has a significant positive impact on many biochemical reactions in the body that regulate the activity of the cardiovascular, neurological, reproductive, and detoxification systems"

What MaisieGray said! I have recently been diagnosed with a methylation issue through genetic testing was found with two altered MFTHR genes, which affect specifically (so advises Dr.) how Folic Acid is metabolized (as in not). His recommendation? Methylated B Vitamins - which had the effect of almost immediately reducing anxiety. I can not describe the almost euphoric relief! All these many years supplementing specificallu with Folic Acid was probably doing (for me) more harm than good. Genetic insights are a wonderful thing and coming on like a freight train. I can’t wait until genetic light shines brilliantly upon the the darkness of today’s present state of medical (non) treatment.

In the meantime, highly recommend the book “Dirty Genes” by Dr. Been Lynch. He writes extensively on the methylation process and detoxification - how he and his whole family have inherited these genetic abnormalities - and what they do at home to reduce toxins, etc.

Ooh interesting. Thyroid doc suggested a test. I'm low in vit d, folate and ferritin but v high in b12 which is what I think is making him suggest the test. Where did you get yours done? Was it your gp?? My gp won't even look beyond my normal

Tsh to lowt3&4 to consider there is an issue.

Thx

Jo

Yes - but I’m here in the US. I hate to tell you the even better news I almost can’t believe it myself. Here in the US the insurance plays the part of dictator over what standard treatment and what’s going to be paid for. He Didn’t ask me if he could do the DNA test he just did it. When I went back and I saw the nine pages of results unfortunately my first reply was “ how much is this going to cost?!” He said don’t worry about it whatever the insurance doesn’t pay I’ll pay for myself. It almost makes me cry. Such a healer such a dedicated caring doctor! He was older he’s seen a lot of suffering I just wanted to stop it. He died a couple of years later that was the last gift he gave me. I will never ever ever forget him.

Misspelled Dr. Ben Lynch. (Corrected here) will never get used to text typing on phone.
